I've just rewatched The Living Daylights, the first one of the two Timothy Dalton did and it was better than I remembered it being. It seems to be one of the less well known of the Bond films somehow but I think it's got some good points. I like the location filming in Vienna (doubling for Bratislava) the plot is quite good and it's a kind of credible espionage film, rather than about global domination by a villain.
The later scenes in Afghanistan are also well done and some good stunt work.
Dalton lacked Moores charisma though, and the second one he did, Licence to kill, I wasn't keen on

I think it followed on only two years after Roger's last outing in A View To A Kill. That was fairly average in the most part so I feel Roger got out at the right time. Timothy Dalton didn't set the world alight but I think he was decent enough in the first film. The second film was a rubbish script so I think it would have been an awful film with whoever played the lead.

My son has got into Bond following his introduction to the series via Live and Let Die, so I've been working through them a bit. We've done all the Moore ones, and one of the Dalton ones, so we've moved back to Connery and watched three of his, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball.
The 60s Connery ones aren't really my bag, I much preferred the Roger Moore later entries into the series. Of the three Connery ones so far, I think From Russia with Love is the best one, it's a reasonably credible espionage film from a time when this was a live issue as there were several spy and security issues in the early 60s.
Goldfinger always gets good reviews, but I'm not really that keen on it and I thought Thunderball was a bit poor, repetitive underwater sequences and not much plot, villain steals nuclear weapons, holds government to ransom, Bond investigates.

Plots are everything, even the most charismatic actor needs a good script. Also, pack it in when you get too old.

Just got through another of Connerys efforts, You only live twice, I haven't seen it since it was first in TV, sometime in the late 70s, and I had pretty much forgotten it.
TBH, I think it's another poor one, as is Thunderball, it's in one location, I like it better when they travel to several different countries, and overall it's sort of cliched, villain with cat on knee, sending you into a tank of sharks.
We've got the Lazenby one and Diamonds are Forever to do next, then we're onto Piers Brosnan, as we've done all the Roger Moore ones, the consensus in the house is that they're the favourites. My 15 year old son loved Live and Let Die.

That moment in Live and Let Die came at a cost...

What a crazy stunt. I wouldn't fancy attempting it Fair play to him for doing that, got a feeling that wouldn't be allowed today.
