Pretty fair summary there Sam. I don't like Craig in the role at all, in fact, the last Bond film I really liked was probably For your eyes only.
A couple of the Piers Brosnan ones were ok ish, but not that memorable, just run of the mill action films.

A friend of mine suggested the other day that On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the best film and the most true to Fleming's version
His words...
George Lazenby comes closest to capturing the literary character than anyone except perhaps Timothy Dalton, and the film is almost exactly as per the book, creating a true cinematic classic.
The romance between George Lazenby's Bond and Diana Rigg's Tracy is captivating, due to both actors' abilities to create complex, multifaceted, flawed characters
Telly Savalas is perfect as the villain with his urbane yet thuggish performance and comes closest to reflecting the pretentious but imposing criminal mastermind of the books
What do you think?
I'm wondering whether to rewatch it now. Not seen it for decades

OHMSS is certainly one of my favourite Bond films (I am still an avid Roger Moore 007 fan though).
It seems like, for a mere moment, the production team wanted Bond to really be the novelised Bond on the big screen and it looks like they nailed it with the look and the feel of the film and all of the actors. It is a genuine shame (in my mind) that Mr.Lazenby got a bit too big for his boots and stormed off as I would have loved to see the Bond films carry on in that way (maybe HIS way in fact) for a few more servings as it were!!!!
If you have not seen OHMSS for a while I urge you to watch it again!

Good shout on Lazenby in OHMSS. I like the movie and I agree its the closest movie to the Fleming story of the same name. As much as I like Roger in the role of Bond, I was disappointed Lazenby did only the one film. He had so much potential.

I haven't seen OHMSS for donkey's years and although I haven't read any of the books I've heard many times over the years that he was closest to IF's character.
Roger Moore was brilliant in the role whether he suited IF's character or not and I've always preferred his Bond but I 'll have to give OHMSS another viewing, and soon (even if it is just to get over "No Time To Die")
Sam.

Roger has the feel of Flemings Bond but his scripts often deviated away from the books by some margin.

'OHMSS' is one of my favourite Bonds and I agree it's a real shame that Lazenby didn't do at least one more film. It's also a bit of a myth that he became too big for his boots, it was much more a clash of personalities behind the scenes and I think he would have made 'Diamonds Are Forever' a much better film by being in it. Connery only agreed to come back for the role if the studio allowed him to make three other projects of his choosing, two of which were 'The Offence' and 'Zardoz', both very different films from the Bond stuff for very different reasons. At the premier for 'OHMSS' Lazenby turned up with a beard which didn't go down well with the producers, and shortly afterwards he started growing his hair out for a role in an Italian 'Giallo' film in 1970 which was very similar to Nic Roeg's 'Don't Look Now', which came out three years later. As a stand alone film, 'OHMSS' is almost perfect just as it is, all the right ingredients are there, not least John Barry's superb score which lifted the standard Bond theme onto another level. It also features one of the best British muscle cars ever built, in the shape of the Aston Martin DBS V8. There's a really good book available about the making of the film.... www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0984412603/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_10?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1As for Daniel Craig - there are definitely some good moments in his Bond films but overall I find them too po faced compared to the earlier films, it's as if the Bond 'franchise' is more important than the stories themselves. It's not easy to explain properly what I mean, but for me there's something lacking in them. Villain

OHMSS is a good Bond film and Lazenby was a good Bond, it's a better film than Diamonds with an out-of-shape Connery, dull script and camp action.
A big pity Lazenby didn't do more Bond.

I think I'd have to agree here, I enjoy OHMSS, and it showed a more real down to earth Bond than in other films. Lazenby was under rated and I agree it's a shame we he didn't stay on to do a few more films into the early 70's as he was young enough too. He was worried about being typecast from what a gather, but like it did with the other Bond actors, (Connery, Moore and Dalton, who were all brilliant as Bond too) if anything it would have helped his career I think.

An interesting film not shown on tv with Lazenby in a small role is 'Saint Jack', filmed in Singapore it stars Ben Gazarra who runs a hotel/brothel & features a number of Brit actors- Denholm Elliot, James Villiers, Joss Ackland & Rodney Bewes.
