I have just met Kevin Whatley in my local Tesco What did you say to him Steve? 'I thought you bought your rindless bacon in Asda?' ...and some "Wonderloaf" too.

Great series this, One of my favourites which I enjoy watching over and over.
I remember it from the early 80's when it was first on TV, My parents used to watch it but I remember I didn't like it. Unfortunately I was a bit too young to appreciate it. I have strong memories of OZ in his grey T shirt with the sweat patches and him saying Ah Bollox man. I also remember Dennis saying, You'll have to sort your own problems out, I've got problems of me own. I only ever remembered series 1, I never saw any of series 2.
My wife decided to buy the box set in around 2005 and I remember saying, I don't know why you're buying that, it's not much good from what I remember. Then I started watching it from the beginning. How blind was I ? it's a brilliant series. Superbly written and great Characters. It's one of my favourites now.
As many have said on here, I think series 2 was very good, especially the Thornley Manor part of it. I do like series 1 a lot but Series 2 is just that bit better for me. Some great acting and filming locations.
I have seen the later series but only once. It was ok, I liked seeing the remainder of the lads back together again but not quite the same without Wayne.

It has been great watching it again in preparation for the next 4:3TV meet, what a horrendous sight Oz is in his skidders scratching his knackers at Norma's place! I've also got the boxed set of all the series and will soon be starting watching them again from the very first episode, it is just classic TV that I can remember avidly watching when it was first broadcast. Wherever my wife and I were we had to get back home in time to watch AWP, it was too good even to miss the opening credits! Sam.

Which squad member is going to be Oz at the travelodge I remember on one of my first meets I was staying at a hotel near Euston, when I accidently locked myself out of my room in the middle the night. I only had my boxer shorts on and I had to go down to reception for another key, luckily there was only the Porter about. Once was enough for me though. Charles.

Brilliant series, its currently being repeated on Yesterday and theyre up to the start of series 2. Personally my favourite character in it was Barry. Timothy Spall played him superbly in both series (I don't count the later BBC travesties)
One other point - is it just me or did anyone else think that the actress who played Dennis's wife was rather nice?!

Screwed Dennis over when he came to see the kids by taking them out with her fancy man and then givies the "somewhere we got lost" speech. Especially galling when you know that it didn't work out for them both and he gave up Dagmar and ends up living with Oz's sister Loved it when she came down the stairs of the hotel when meeting Dennis & Dagmar with the jacket over her shoulders, very 80's Punched above his weight did Dennis; Vera, Dagmar & Christine (actually Kevin Whatelys wife) don't you think? Lysette Anthony though

I've noticed that La Frenais & Clement like to give many of their male characters classy wives/girlfriends. Dennis punched well above his weight with Vera, Dagmar & Christine Chadwick.
