My parents got into American Football at some point in the 70s or 80s, I assume and still love it now. What’s CB radio? Citizens Band Radio, or more commonly "CB Radio" is a mobile radio system which you can use to communicate with others over short distances. Gene. My mums neighbour was into all that and had a huge aerial set up at the bottom of the back garden with a small shed. The neighbour used to go off down to his shed at all hours and muck about on various Radio Sets and his CB.
Funny thing is, you knew when he was down there, as at certain times of the day; particularly during afternoons and early evening, whatever he was broadcasting with interfered with our TV and odd bars would keep flashing across the screen.
Mind you it was a Radio Ham set up in a bedsit that highlighted the Baker Street Bank Robbery in 1971.
Didn't CB Radio users have "Handles" or "User Name" - kind of like an internet chatroom of it's day....?

I’m literally counting on this all my clean shaven colleagues appeared on our group chat with varying stages of stubble. They all get biweekly bloody haircuts normally, too. I’m waiting patiently to admire the results of all this

Oi! That's hairist to those that are challenged in this department and would find that difficult! Mind you I'm still attractive.

It all came about after the film 'Convoy' was released and ran for a number of years after. I was never interested in it besides which having a bike instead of a car it wouldn't have happened anyway. One of my mates had it in his car, his father did too, and they even had a basestation set up at home so that they could let the mother know when they were on their way home! I sat in his car once and heard the conversations, there was the obligator "two-four good buddy" and all that cack going on but the bottom line was that the conversations were futile. I was glad I was never part of it. Sam.

All the truckers seemed to talk about was the Weather and where they could pickup a local Prostitute.
Sorry to have to bring this up... Though didn't Dave Lee Travis do a cover/send up of the CW McCall "Convoy" song?

Something decidedly naff about Brits adopting American ways. CB Radio, American Football, Line dancing As Barry points out, Channel 4 had a lot to do with it with their American Football coverage.
They also introduced Brits to Sumo, I remember a documentary about Brits training to become Sumo wrestlers, there was one guy who sticks in my mind who made cake mix & ate it raw out of the bowl to gain weight.
