We already have a thread for old period car and other motoring related adverts and a Motor Show one, so I thought I'd start one on general stuff from back in the day - ie: genuine period photographs whether candid or posed (old family photos with cars in them are very welcome), they could be from different areas of motorsport or even well known / famous folk with their cars etc. Anything on wheels is fine and it doesn't have to just be limited to the more familiar British stuff either, material from all around the world would keep it interesting, everyday scenes or rare exotica, anything you like so long as the pictures themselves are old. I'll start the ball rolling but post whatever you you find or have lurking in your hard drive . A Jensen CV8 being loaded for a foreign jaunt.... Sir William Lyons shows off the very first E-Type Fixed Head Coupe to the press in Geneva in March 1961.... An every day scene in '70s Britain.... A typical works car park in the late '60s.... South London in the early '80s.... In the late '50s and early '60s Isetta bubble cars were built in Brighton.... The old McLaren factory in Colnbrook in the '70s.... Portabello Road in the '70s with a ropey old Jag, note the tiny Lotus Elite in the background.... Mk1 Minis and an 1100 / 1300 being dispatched from Longbridge c.1965.... Oxford Street in 1966.... Tottenham Court Road c.1970.... In 1970, while he was working on 'The Persuaders' Tony Curtis asked Jensen Motors to bring their Interceptor demonstrator down to the studios so he could test drive it, satisfied with it he then ordered one which was promptly delivers to him at the studio.... Len Street ran a Lotus dealership and workshop in Chelsea in the '60s and '70s.... An every day scene in exotic Bracknell in the '70s.... Oakbury Road, Fulham in February 1971.... Ford Capri launch in late 1969.... Location unknown but it's a typical car park line up in the '70s.... More to come. Villain

That Lanica in the last photo rusted away 30 secs after the shot was taken. Great thread. Not so much the title though!

Great photos Villain. My dad is a retired London taxi driver. Here is a photo of one he bought new in 1975 - taken soon after he bought it. He kept it until 1979 when he bought a T reg one in black. The Saint http://instagr.am/p/CY7V3kVqBj1

Fabuous pictures there Villain and many thanks! Been doing a few "Divla" checks on some of the car numbers visible; looks like the Jensen demonstrator Tony Curtis drove survived till 1983 although no record of the number of the car he bought - unless it survives with a different registration number or Tony took it with him back to the states, (quite possible).
The Morris Mini in the background of the photo with Tony Curtis Interceptor also lasted till 1983 too.
The famous E type demonstrator does indeed survive although the Hunter and the Escort parked outside British Oxygen have no record. The Escort must be one of the earliest as the number series was issued from February 1968. The "ET" series of registration numbers were issued from Rotherham, so looks like that photo was taken at a branch office in Yorkshire .
The American car (Chevrolet Camaro pre 1970 I think) has no record either although must have been a recent import with 79/80 plate. No record for the MKX Jag or the Lancia Beta either.
Although ST's dad's old Austin FX4 taxi lasted till early 1992 - over 16 years is good going - but they are quite tough old motors them! And yes I rather liked the red ones I remember seeing in London as a boy too.

That Lanica in the last photo rusted away 30 secs after the shot was taken. Great thread. Not so much the title though! It never crossed my mind that the thread title might mean 'something else'! Thanks for the comments gents, more material to come - love your Dad's old FX4 Saint, what a great period shot too, please post anything else you might have . A very special Aston Martin takes shape at Newport Pagnell.... Flushed wit ha few quid, Mick Jagger treated himself to a brand new Aston DB6 in 1966.... Peter Sellers used his own Aston DB4 in 'Wrong Arm Of The Law'.... One of the rare Aston DB4GT Zagatos in period.... Francois Hardy with her new Mk1 Mini Cooper in Paris, c.1966.... Lord Snowdon with his Aston DB5 Drophead.... When the new William Towns designed DBS appeared a four door version was built for David Brown, six others followed this but they had the later V8 style front end.... John Barry and his 1964 E-Type with Jane Birkin.... And in complete contrast, an every day scene in Dunstable in 1985 where the A5 passes through the centre of the town.... An unknown location in London in 1982, a nice mixed bag here, that yellow Esprit looks like a spaceship compared to everything else.... Villain

Villain I love these early 4-door Lagondas...!! I have yet to see a picture in colour but I believe David Browns example was a dark purple with a purple interior to boot!!! It has been restored now but to a far more conservative (and boring!!) specification.

Good sets of photos Vill. What is that little yellow sports two seater behind the angle box in the second of the McLaren factory snaps. To me it looks a bit Lancia ? See below
