In his diaries in 1967, Kenneth mentioned his refusal to talk to the press about the murder of his playwright friend Joe Orton. Looks like it would be the early 80s before he had the composure to talk about Joe in this clip for the BBC's Arena programme.

I was surprised to find that, whilst he hated his own performances and had a dislike of the production team, Kenneth appeared on 48 editions of Countdown in Dictionary Corner.
Clips and programmes of his appearances are rare and keep disappearing from online platforms, but I found this one from 1983 which unfortunately has a watermark during parts of it. Still worth a watch.

This diary entry from December 1982 could've been about that very clip- 'Saw Louie ( Williams mother ) for a meal. She was watching 'Countdown' and again I noticed how dreary it is...the endless mechanical pauses, the contrived look of my comedy efforts, the safe smugness of Richard Whiteley and the unattractive contestants'. Williams first mentions Countdown in an August 1982 entry, he was sent a videotape of a what must've been a pilot as Channel 4 didn't start broadcasting until November 1982.
