Yes indeed, Charles. It was nice to hear from you on the dog the other night and glad things have got better for you. Having had a serious bout of Covid myself in December, I know what you've been through.
Great to hear you are all geared up for the upcoming Meet though and we'll all be raising a glass (or 30) to everyones health going forward.
Back on topic, the Kenneth Williams diaries are an excellent and entertaining read and I whole heartedly recommend getting the book. A lot of the content can be taken with a pinch of salt given Kenneth could be quite venomous at times but it is a very engrossing read.
Gene.

I shall lookout for a copy of Kenneth Williams Diary as they do sound very entertaining indeed. I suppose when you read them you hear Kenneth's distinct voice narrating.
P.S Sorry to hear about your illness Charles. It really is an awful virus ! Glad you're on the mend now.

I got a copy about 12 years ago with the intention of only reading the bits about Carry On, but ended up reading the whole thing several times over since. Everything is fascinating from his years in the forces, early rep theatre work and the gradual decline in his physical and emotional wellbeing in the 80s It's one of the books I would take to a Desert Island, that is if the BBC run out of celebs and decide to interview 4:3tv members for Desert Island Discs.

Thank you Nightfly for putting up those comments of Kenneth's about Peter Gilmore. I was glad to see that Kenneth had a favourable opinion of Peter. The Mrs and I are huge fans of Peter Gilmore and will be very sorry indeed to get to the end of his series The Onedin Line. We only have series eight to watch now.
Thank you so much to you all for wishing me well on recovering from Covid. It meant a lot. I have to say I underestimated it myself before I got it.
Thankfully I am very much better now. I was surprised though to find out recently how bad Gene's experience with it had been. I'm so glad that he too is better now.
Charles.

Sorry to read this Charles and Gene, that you were affected by the horrid Covid and that you're much better now - a local friend had it bad too which sounded horrendous.
Back on topic, I found this clip of Kenneth Williams guest presenting I think a spot on Tomorrow's World which did make me chuckle with affection - a very convincing and entertaining presentation which teaches you something too! Would have been great if Ken could have done more of this!

He was a great communicator & able to explain things in an entertaining way without being patronising as that clip shows, there was more to him than the Carry Ons but his unique personality limited the sort of work he was offered.

A good analysis, Kenneth could easily have been successful in many ways but as you say perhaps some opportunities were restricted for him. He had early career background in theatre so I'm sure he could have been successful in that field and I think he would have made a good chat show host or Radio DJ

It was such a shame that he had so much self doubt when he was liked by so many people.

KW was an entertaining guy, I used to enjoy his radio work on Radio 4, he could be very funny on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. Actually that could be my epitaph ....................
