Visited the British Motor Museum at Gaydon near Warwick on Saturday. There really is a lot of interesting cars there, Royal cars, Prime Ministers cars, Film cars and prototypes which never made it into production. This is one of two protype SD1 estates built in house at the Solihull plant converted from early hatchback models. One was used by Michael Edwardes whilst he was BL chairman. During the design of the TR7 it was intended to build a fastback version codenamed Lynx. This is the last of 18 prototypes and believed to be the sole surviver. It is fitted with a Rover V8 and Lucas fuel injection and was seen to be a successor to the Stag. The Rover T4 was the fourth and final prototype for a road going gas turbine car. It was based upon a Rover 2000 prototype and unveiled 2 years before the conventional 2000 reached the market. And one for Parker, Lady Penelope's Fab 1 Thunderbird.

Interesting pictures Peter. Get a feeling of deja vu though, the T4 reminds me of the Citroen DS and the TR7 Fastback has the look of the ill fated Nissan/Alfa Arna, remember that?
It's probably best that they did not make production.
Thanks for posting

I think so Steve, wasn't it a Nissan Cherry with an Alfa engine ? There were other strange Leyland prototypes, i'll post some more pictures later.

Great place to visit, will try and get up there this year at some point. There's a number of events taking place, including a Ford show on July 17th (might have to miss it though as I may be somewhere else) which is good, last went in 2012. Also vintage truck shows, BMC/BL day on July 3rd and a Transit convention and meet in August as well as others.
Been several times for car events, the first time back in 1994 - Peter- did you get to the other new building which houses the overflow collection or more cars and prototypes? I believe its got some of the cars which were stored away and not seen for years so looking forward to that one day. Thanks for the photos too!
I think the Triumph Lynx looks a bit like a late 70's Toyota Celica liftback to me at the back. Shame as, as well as the Stag replacement, could also have made a nice MGB GT V8 replacement too.

Went over last weekend, was due to do the Pride Of Longbridge run with my oppo Big Jon in his SD1, when we got there it was cancelled due to the light dusting of snow so we decided to do Gaydon instead. The collection in the new building still needs ot be displayed properly but what's on show at present is well worth a look, amongst many others it holds the Queen's second P5B saloon, the Heath / Wilson / Callaghan / Thatcher P5B and a very rare 1965 3-litre P5 Coupe. There's a lot more to be displayed in the future as the 'Dr.Hull' collection was bought lock, stock and barrel, a total of 583 vehicles, mostly British.
