Went over last weekend, was due to do the Pride Of Longbridge run with my oppo Big Jon in his SD1, when we got there it was cancelled due to the light dusting of snow so we decided to do Gaydon instead. The collection in the new building still needs ot be displayed properly but what's on show at present is well worth a look, amongst many others it holds the Queen's second P5B saloon, the Heath / Wilson / Callaghan / Thatcher P5B and a very rare 1965 3-litre P5 Coupe. There's a lot more to be displayed in the future as the 'Dr.Hull' collection was bought lock, stock and barrel, a total of 583 vehicles, mostly British. Villain ;O) This is the P5B used by several prime ministers. Apparently it was fitted with extra large ash trays for Harold Wilson. Yes D.C.Burtonshaw the overspill storage building was open to look around. The photo of the Rover was in this building so as you can see not too much room between the cars, but enough to get around and see them all.

I had a close look at those P5Bs and it looks as though they've never been resprayed, as the factory applied hand painted coachlines are still intact. Likewise for Her Maj's other P5B over in the main building. Great thing about visiting the place is once you've bought a ticket you can come back and get in for free a second time... must go back soon and get some decent smudges. Villain

Do you find that when you're playing that you go too fast on the curves and fall out the slot ?

Do you find that when you're playing that you go too fast on the curves and fall out the slot ? It is all about self-control. Like anything, if you go in too hard and fast you're likely to end up coming a cropper.

I think so Steve, wasn't it a Nissan Cherry with an Alfa engine ? There were other strange Leyland prototypes, i'll post some more pictures later. That's the one Peter, I think they were trying to keep up with Triumph/Honda because that went well too didn't it! Yes, i was never a fan of the Acclaim, although BL had considered their own Dolomite replacement- The 1975 Triumph SD2 Allied. The Rover SD1 influence is clear on the interior photo but it never got any further than this prototype. Another idea was the 1972 Dolomite with Michelotti designed body.

Great stuff Pete. That SD2 thing is horrendous. It looks like a cross between a Renault 20 at the back and a Lada Samara at the front.

Yes, maybe the Acclaim is growing on me. Still good to see what was being considered back in the day.

The offside tail end of that Princess.... That's not a stock indicator / reflector behind the petrol cap is it? My Dad had the 2.2 Wolseley variant (1975) and that certainly didn't have one of those.

Well spotted Gene. Maybe it's a prototype.
