I've been watching, and enjoying this fantastic series for the first time this past week, Ten years after it was made. ( I know, pathetic of me isn't it ? ) Only one episode of the first series to watch now, then onto series two, and then Ashes To Ashes. John Simm, and Phillip Glenister both give really top performances of course. It was a good idea to set it in Manchester rather than London. As to the time factor it's really scary how fast it goes. Same here Bronson . It takes me a while to get round to things Life On Mars is a good series although I haven't seen it again since it broadcast and have seen none of A2A.

In episode 1.04, Sam is seen watching the Grand National on TV. He is in fact watching the 1974 Grand National, and not the correct 1973 race.

I agree John Simms was perfect and don't think they would have been a better choice... As for glitches, think the episode where they go to the football match, ya can see Modern double glazing Windows!

I was thinking about this only today funnily enough! I was blown away by the first episode and thought it was what we had been waiting for on noughties TV for a long time!! But even I haven't seen it again since its first transmission.
Regarding the Sam Tyler character name, the same name was also used for a forgotten 80's sitcom "Three Up 2 down" which starred Michael Elphick - he played the "Sam Tyler" in that! Very different to John Simms though!
Still watched all of A2A but I always thought that was less accurate with the props and clothing in that, although some of the stories were still good.
Yeah great stuff nonetheless.

At least it was proper beer in the taps in those days, not like we have Nelson serving us now!
Happy days!

It was a bloody good night that Sam, but difficult to believe it was so many years ago. They've pulled that boozer down now.
