Indeed, many thanks for posting all these up Art, I nice reminder and incite into the TV listings in those days! There's a number of programmes I remember - just remembered that series of Just William too, although found it rather silly at the time, even as a child then! A review of the forthcoming films (although a few years old) make interesting reading too.

The 1975 Christmas Supersonic edition was probably the one I watched this particular Boxing Day in 1975. I always think it looked better than TOTP during that era and seemed to make use of whatever visual effects were available at the time. I liked the quirky way they dispensed with an actual presenter and just had a camera in the gallery with director Mike Mansfield introducing the act - ...and ...cue Alvin Stardust etc. However, it gave Benny Hill the excuse to make the parody:-

Surprised to see Paul Eddington in that clip, not someone you'd expect to see on Benny Hill.

Benny Hill did his take on Sale of the Century too. Even has his take on the Anglia intro too...

Benny Hill was, sometimes, funny. In the later shows I think he got lazy though and rehashed sketches and other material.

That's TV ( a cheapo freeview channel ) have been showing later series of The Benny Hill Show recently, most of the sketches are silent & the humour very basic. It's said that alternative comedy & PC were to blame for the show being cancelled, more likely the style of comedy was just out of date & not particularly funny. Hill had been around for at least 30 years by then & was probably set in his ways, both in terms of writing & performance.

They've also been showing early Beadles About and Kenny Everett Show (the late 70s Thames series)too. Love it when channels like these pop up and complete random shows, not seen for years are shown.
Not caught the Benny Hill repeats yet - but was wondering what series was being repeated. My eldest son watched Beadle and Kenny Everett - he found them hilarious. So, some things don't date at least!

I suppose it's surprising that they're aren't more of these channels, they're the equivalent of pound shops. That's TV show 4:3 tv shows in the wrong aspect ratio, it's fixed as well so you can't change it on your tv.
Speaking of quality I've also noticed that the sound on Drama has been out of sync for at least a year, presumably it's something they can't fix as surely they're aware of it.
