Thank you all for your comments, I must admit that as charity events go it had to be one of the most enjoyable ways that I could raise money for the cause. No bathtubs or baked beans, what could be better than a bike ride on near empty coastal roads in glorious September Sun interspersed with a couple of walks along the beach, scoffing an ice cream, stopping for a great British cuppa, and chatting with some like minded blokes about old bikes.
The biggest effort was in promoting it and getting the donations but that eventually paid off as the messages of gratitude that I received from my mate's two daughters were quite stirring and made that effort all so worthwhile.
Get the bike sorted Steve? Yes I will to in good time, I've now got to find myself some gainful employment first so that I can afford the repairs, how boring!
Sam.

Thanks Essex There's not much going on on the job front unfortunately but there's countless thousands that are in the same boat, all let go as work died down due to Covid. Sh*t happens but it could be worse! Sam.

Cheers Carty, No worries, I won't let the grass grow under my feet, I've got a sideline going and a few plans so can keep the wolf from the door for the time being. Sam.

Just when I thought I'd exhausted this topic: The postie turned up today with an unexpected package so imagine my surprise to open the following as reward for achieving my target: The pewter discs are meant to be put on the bike but I think they can reside in the display cabinet. The badges will go on the leather jacket though. I can't stress enough how thankful I am to the generosity of so many forum members that contributed and helped me on my way to achieve that £1000 target, thank you all. Sam.
