Thanks again for all the donations received, I'm not far short of halfway towards my target of £1000 and thanks to all that have donated I'm currently top of the leaderboard for the Isle Of Wight ride.
The other good news is that the event itself has so far raised over one million US dollars worldwide which is a fantastic amount when the event hasn't even taken place yet.
My fundraising so far is only a drop in the ocean in comparison but every little helps.
Sam.

Thank you for your support and generous donation Gerry, it is much appreciated. I've now passed the halfway stage towards my target of £1000 and have also completed a couple of jobs on the bike that needed doing. Typical of a 40 year old vehicle there have been some electrical "repairs" with horrendous soldering and more than its fair share of incorrect coloured wires and insulating tape i.e. negative earth wires that are red instead of black with white tracer, split insulation taped over, and so on. As I've got plenty of spares I've been able to replace cables and also resolder bad joints which I've then covered in heatshrink sleeving. Everything is now so much neater. Sam.

I haven't heard of that particular fund raising event. There are different fund raisers out here for awareness and research. Very worthy cause. Good luck with the ride Sam and well done for making such a stand to raise funds and participate in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. It is such an awful disease. That's very sad that you have lost so many friends to it, at young ages.
My brotherinlaw was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and had an operation. Early diagnosis can be a life saver.
With mental health we are all fragile. We definitely need to all support each other.

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride does take place in Oz, there are rides arranged in 50 different cities across the country and 2116 gents are taking part but looking at the fundraising leaderboards there are some big sums being raised and the event is growing year by year. Sam.

Thanks again for the donations received so far from more of our members, as a result I'm gradually moving up the ranks and am now the 26th highest fundraiser out of 2666 in the UK, and for the Isle Of Wight ride my total very nearly equals the amount that all other IOW riders have raised so far. The donations received from the forum here have made a huge difference for which I am eternally grateful. Still two weeks to go so all further donations, however large or small, will be gratefully received.
Certainly the two daughters of my friend that died last year have really appreciated the fund-raising effort and each sent me a heartfelt message which was real encouragement for me.
Sam
