Oh yes, was born one, I know that now. Grew up listening to and being very attracted to bands like Quo, Sweet, Slade, GnR, Alice Cooper, etc, but what made the biggest impact on me was being 5-and-a-half years old and seeing Motorhead on *that* episode of The Young Ones. To say I was captivated just doesn't cut it. I love lots of music, indie, britpop, what I call old pop, a lot of mainstream stuff that was around when I was in school but my heart lies with hard rock and metal. I remember that episode with 'Motorhead'. I'm sure Madness and Dexys Midnight Runners also did the show.
There was also some band called 'Rip Rig and Panic'....
Dexys, Madness were on twice, Rip Rig and Panic, The Damned, Nine Below Zero, Ken Bishop's Nice Twelve (Jools Holland and mates), Alexei Sayle with his Dr Martens Boots song, John Otway, Motorhead, and Amazulu. Flood was the only episode to not have a musical guest on.

There was a sort of follow up done in the 80s called Filthy Rich and Catflap. I remember The Nolans turning up on it once Yep. And Richie with his little song in the Nolan's shower 'I'm in the mood for Richie, who's not titchy, oh no he's incredibly well endowed'

Hahaha!! I get there is personal jokes going on here but this really made me chuckle! Still, after a while, most men rust up in that department. Old age I suppose ;p Don’t laugh at his jokes TPP. Just encourages him.

It's never the same otherwise. Esp if your partial to a bit of Noddy. I also love proper metal (those other bands I mentioned are just hard rock) like Pantera, Slipknot, Morbid Angel, etc, and folk metal too, too many to talk about. :)

Jools Holland had various projects going on at the time - he had his Millionaires - who'd pop up a lot on The Tube on C4.
I saw Nine Below Zero at a small wet & muddy music festival near Doncaster in 2007 - nothing had changed. They even played their version of the theme to the Old Grey Whistle Test...
Think it's time to dig out the DVDs again.

Even if I don't like some of the acts and songs featured those music interludes in The Young One's were brilliant and some of them were far better than the TOTP/promos for these songs made at the time. Motorhead's 'Ace of Spade's' is about as good as it gets.

The Young Ones without music was regarded within BBC guidelines as "Comedy" - and therefore would allocate a very small budget. If it featured live(ish) Music, the show could then be classified as "Light Entertainment" - thus opening up the doors for slightly bigger budgets - as the BBC liked to spend more on Light Entertainment.
Kenny Everett, 2 Ronnies, Morcambe & Wise etc and all on the BBC did it. I think Mr Saville even did it with his "show".

Interesting Sparks the BBC budget thing and something I never knew, I wonder if ITV was the same as some of their programmes had similar music interludes too, ugh the Cilla Black/Jimmy Tarbuck one's seem to follow a similar format.
At least The Young One's used it creatively and got some obscure talent on there along with more well known names like Motorhead, Dexy's and Madness.

The BBC had to be pretty strict - given it's Taxpayers money they are spending. ITV's profits came/come from Programme Sales and Advertising.
Quite a few faces rolled up in the "Young Ones" - Roger Sloman, Griff Rhys Jones, Kate Williams etc

Nine Below were so underrated, pub rock/indie band. They were fab. Nice to know they are still going in one way or another.
