Great ad Gene and what a difference between the two models, the one in the foreground is very plain when compared to the other. It just goes to show what a difference the colour scheme and wheels make to the car. Sam.

Another nice find Gene. The 'Scort mk2 was as much as a giant leap from the mk1 as the fwd mk3 was to it, in the mid '70's. Still they're going for silly money nobody even 20 years ago would've predicted! Thanks for sharing.

Great advert Gene, thanks for posting. I remember borrowing a mk2 from work once when I worked in a workshop for a large oil company and I needed some brake parts for my mk4 Cortina. I drove down to the local motor factors while still wearing my overalls and with a works 'chit' written out with the list of parts that I needed. Without question the bloke behind the counter saw the company logo on my overalls and gave a 50% discount on all the parts that I needed. If only I still had that sort of buying power! Sam.

Thanks for the latest upload Gene - resonates with me of course as many of you know! Must be a very early advert for the MK2 shortly after launch as the car in the picture would be the 2 door GL which only ever had the 1.3, 57 bhp engine in the UK and square headlamps throughout production until it ended in 1980. Also it is so early, that the earliest GL's had the same slimmer wheels as the base models and the Escort L at that time, but were changed to the "dartboard style" sports wheels from the summer of 1975.
The owners of surviving MK1 Escorts often say they would never own a MK2 as they prefer the MK1 Styling which I understand; However I have to agree with period roadtests from the magazines such as Motor, Autocar and CAR at the time of the MK2 launch who said it was much more refined, quieter and an improvement over the car's predecessor, and increased glass area too and a more ergonomic dash, so when I read that I was pleased I have never changed it for a MK1! (Although still quite hanker for a nice standard 1300E - the luxury version of the MK1). Some enthusiasts today of "Non-Ford" classics may look down their noses and get a bit hostile towards Fords (not that I would put down their favourite cars though) and why they're worth so much nowadays but there's many reasons for this - popularity, practicality, and their motorsport success all helped to make them still well loved today.
