Great ad Gene, thanks for posting. Whenever I see mention of the mk2 1600E it takes me back to schooldays and our Technical Drawing teacher having a metallic green 1600E. Together with the PE/Games teachers and Geography teachers he'd be down the pub of a lunchtime. Great teacher he was too, I can always remember him smiling when he was trying to give me a b***ocking for doing a wheelie on my bike for the whole length of the school drive when I should have got off and walked it. The thing was that he wouldn't have spotted me but I alerted him when I shouted at some other kids to "Get out of the f**king way!". Sam.

Uncle Henry knew how to present their motors in those days. A nice spot Gene thanks for sharing.

Great Ad Gene. The 1600E certainly was a good looking motor. I remember a couple of people I know viewing 1600E's in the mid/late 80's with a view to buying as they weren't terribly expensive at the time and magazines such as Fast Ford had plenty of ads with parts such as performance exhausts/manifolds etc for them alongside parts for more modern Fords at the time

Thanks for Villain and Gene for the uploads! Firstly the American car adverts are evocative of their time and the adverts for the accessories and wheels and tyre upgrades etc. They remind me of the 1/25 scale plastic model car kits you can still get now with the build options that were like the real thing personalising your car kit too!
As for the 1600E MK2 Cortina, that was one of Ford UK's simple but effective marketing ideas which successfully paid off - a very sought after car, consistently as the years went by after they ended production. I fell for them too as a boy - I remember one in my town around in the mid 80's repainted in late 70's Cosmos Blue, with quarter bumpers, square front number plate and a sunstrip at the top of the windscreen advertising Capital Radio 194......... Earlier on a primary schoolteacher I remember had a gold one approx 1980. There was also an Orchid coloured one with a black vinyl roof at one of the houses in my secondary school's street too.
I know of a lovely concours condition gold H reg one which goes to the local classic car shows to me which has been in the same family since nearly new. A couple turned up in separate Professionals episodes along with a dark green one used in a Persauders episode.
2 door versions were also made - mainly as Left hand drive for export but a tiny number were made with Right hand drive for Ireland, Ford UK managers as company cars and the odd one for British servicemen in Germany, and I've read of one that was found in Zimbabwe and may well be in this country under restoration by now.
Yep one of Ford's best!

Yes, I like 1600Es, they were a modification of the standard Mark 2, but seemed to have a different character to the car they were based on and looked quite sporty. The suspension was lowered and was the same as on the Lotus version.
I liked them in metallic gold, there was one near me in Radcliffe in the 70s, which I always thought looked good.
They also did a 2000E with the Corsair and Mark 3 Cortina, but neither had the same appeal as the 1600E
