I've been rewiring the lounge in my house today, which required me to get the carpet up. I had a pleasant surprise when I did as I'd forgotten what the previous owner of the house had put under the underlay many years ago. When we first moved in 18 years ago, we had new underlay and a new carpet fitted but it was done while I was out at work so I was unaware that the carpet fitters had left the surprise in place. The surprise was a complete covering of newspaper, a lot of which was in perfect condition. Now I know the old biddy and her bloke moved into the house in the early 80s but the newspaper dates their occupancy more accurately. May 24th 1981 to be precise. I got a photo of one particular standout page as I thought it would be good to post it on here. It is from The Sunday Telegraph, and is a full page advert for Mercedes cars. (Click to enlarge) Gene.

Thanks for sharing Gene, an interesting background story I do like the classic SL107s. The Saint

Mind you I thought the customisation of this advertising poster quite funny.
As for the 'Scooby' is that a '70's equivalent of what eventually became the Impreza WRX etc.
Nice find again Saint!

Wonder how many women said " I was thinking of buying a Fiat 127, but because of their daft sexist advert I bought a VW Polo instead "?

An advert for Youngs Ford up in Sunderland from 1964. A great image and very much of its day but the area is unrecognisable now. The houses on the left have been replaced with a McDonalds drive through and Youngs itself replaced by a retail park Here is the same view today - >> View today <<Gene.

What a stunning picture. Can't believe what it's been replaced with There's a saying that goes something like "the telling of an interesting story invariably reminds the other chap of a dull one". I'm generally the "other chap" and to prove it, here is a similar picture of the local VW garage in my hometown, taken sometime in the late 60's. What I wouldn't give to walk into that showroom today. Here is the same location today:
