Despite all the handicaps, White Town filmed the video for their 1997 #1 hit "Your Woman" in Derby :_
The building to the left in the second Street View pic is sadly under threat of demolition, the cost of removal of asbestos being too high to afford.
Silly me, forgot to post the video

Curiously Tony Burrows who sang lead on the single doesn't seem to be in this video. Maybe he was busy ghost singing on the other projects he was involved with at the time. Either that, or he was round the corner out of sight cashing in his session fee cheques at the nearest bank.

Here's Big Audio Dynamite's "Sightsee M.C!" knocking around Sweeney and Pro's locations around Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Park, Latimer Road and Shepherd's Bush from 'Big Brother' 'Sweet Smell of Succession' 'Stay Lucky Eh?' and 'The Madness of Micky Hamilton'. Considering the BAD promo was filmed in "87 about 11-8 years after these locations were featured it looks rough as hell in comparison.

Fricken' hell, I worked on this video. It was the first music video I worked on that had a little bit of money.
It was done very cheaply around autumn 1996. Most of it was shot in the Market Place next to the Guildhall and Assembly Rooms (about to be demolished).
The brief was to make it look like a silent film. Mark Adcock was the Director.
If I recall, we shot about 4 music videos for some other bands who were on the same label. Not at the same location, but elsewhere around Derby. One was in the old "Rockhouse" on Babington Lane, another around the grounds of a University Campus.
Obviously the white town video got close to the charts. The others didn't!!!
Great find Windy!
Brings back some memories of being soaked and full of cold - but there was a pub somewhere to the RH side of where the RBS is (Pic 6) - they served great Real Ale and a decent dinner.

I have found the paperwork and some photos from the recce and a couple of the actual shoot for this video. Though never got the photos processed - though still have the negs. Will dig out the scanner.
Other locations on this video were:
Derby University, Kedleston Rd Campus - the old Students Union Building (been rebuilt after the roof collapsed)
Nat-Wast bank on St Peters Street, The Spot / Eagle Centre frontage - St Peters Street Cornmarket - what was St James' chambers
Duckworth Square (the derelict shopping centre) and the roof carpark (now demolished) Debenhams Store Victoria Street (just been demolished) - when the Xmas lights had just been switched on.
Pennine Hotel (about to be demolished) Derby City Council House (exterior)
Some of the interiors were done in the empty upstairs rooms of "The George" public house in the Market Place (now Jorrocks) and a couple at a Solicitors offices - Jacobean House I think it was then called - where no staff would dare to go upstairs alone.

Here's another golden oldie that I saw on the Now 70's channel t'other night in which I recognised the location: This was filmed along the seafront at Southsea, Portsmouth. Although the pier has changed significantly over the years, the giveaway for me was this characteristic shelter that remains along the promenade and that can be seen in the close background through the majority of the video. The Google view of the shelter is from the opposite side to where they played on the prom: >>> Google view <<<Sam.

From the google link, it's changed a bit since 1998 too.
Like the Moog Synth / Vox Continental keyboard set up.

Massive Attack are on Top Of The Pops tonight with "Unfinished Sympathy". It's arguably one of the most outstanding records of the 90's. Had Shara Nelson plus orchestra not made it into the TOTPs studio, they'd have shown this video :- But where was it filmed? From 1311 South New Hampshire Avenue to 2632 West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles, California to be exact. If you follow the route, you'll see some of the local businesses are still trading, such as the charity shop, the furniture store and the barbers.
