I didnt like it either Three Litre. It's a long time since I watched the film but I do recall that it wasn't as good as the Saltzman/Broccoli Bond films. Connery must gave got a good pay cheque for doing it. Oh yeah, true Bond fans will never say it is part of the "Bond Cannon", and I certainly wouldn't say it's one of the best, Connery did the best with what he was given, but yeah I agree about the main Villain, Largo, the actor rather hammed it up I thought, like a mad Count, in a period film!
That's interesting date Arthur, about which Bond's were on at Christmas, I must have missed Diamonds, at Christmas '78 although I remember seeing You Only live Twice earlier in the year, the first 007 film I saw all the way through. I think I saw Thunderball during '79 but before Christmas. I first saw Diamonds a little while later approx 1980 sometime (I know it was when the weather was nice and the evening was lighter).
I did see the Man with the Golden Gun, on it Christmas day 1980 TV premier too, so the first "Moore Bond" film I saw.
You may have missed Diamonds because there was a big ITV strike and a lot of the regions didn't show it. I had to watch some naff Rooster Cogburn film on BBC1 that didn't even have John Wayne in it!

Actually I just googled the strike and it only lists Yorkshire, which is where we were just for the holidays so that I may be why I was so angry as if we'd be at home we could have watched it! I blame Sparky.

I watched him the other night in '72 film about Henry 8th, he played Cromwell, the film is an adaptation of the '70 series about the 6 wives.

OHMSS about to start on ITV4, 8pm. Holy cow, I'd forgotten how sexist this film was. Bond being told he needs to marry Diana Rigg because she needs dominating, not long after he slapped her.

My first experience of Bond was being taken to see Diamonds while on holiday in Pwllheli in north Wales, back in '71.
Then it was Live and Let Die in '73.
Then in the early '70s they used to show double bills of Bond films at the cinema, so you'd get From Russia With Love with You Only Live Twice. You don't get two films anymore or second features as you call them.
Mid '70s brought them to the telly, then one of my favourite Bond experiences was in '77 with The Spy Who Loved Me as I took my very cute girlfriend along! It was a very entertaining film and Julie was delightful!

Live and Let Die is not bad as Bonds go . Not as good as the 60s stuff but a good starter for ten for Roger. Always loved the theme tune but am gutted they totalled an RF bus on the low bridge stunt I remember there being a big thing of the network premier of Live And Let Die in the early 80s on ITV. I remember watching it at a friends house who had taped it on one of those huge top loading Fergusson VHS machines. I've had a look but can't find the trailer but checking it was shown as a premiere in Jan 1980. I seem to remember films being 5 to 8 year old for their premieres. Must of been a cost thing. According to The International Bond Fan ClubRoger Moore's first Bond film, Live and Let Die, was first shown on ITV on 20th January, 1980, and received an astonishing 23 million viewers and was probably the highpoint of Bond on British TV.
