I've got a book where Dick Emery describes his characters called 'In Character', I think he was at his best doing the short street vox pops he is famous for, the longer studio based sketches tend to drag a bit.
Thanks for the link, that’s brilliant. Reminds me of Saturday afternoons (if not at footie) butchering 1:72 scale kits while grandstand was on.

Thought I'd post this link here.
If you were a child in the sensational 70s, you'll love this.

I've been watching John Sullivan's first comedy Citizen Smith on Forces TV & it struck me that Only Fools And Horses is more or less the same show. Wolfie Smith is Del Boy, Mum played by Hilda Braid is just like Lennard Pearce as Grandad, Mike Grady as Ken is Rodney more or less, Dad played by Peter Vaughan is Boycey, Tucker is Trigger, Smith's girlfriend Shirley is Raquel etc. The premise of both shows is the same, Del Boy's 'next year we'll be millionaires' & Smith's revolution that never comes.

I remember Citizen Smith, it wasn't bad, Sweeney face in it, George Sweeney, Cook from Taste of Fear/On the Run as Speed, a similar character really. One funny but was where Wolfie stood as a candidate in a by election and got 6 votes, the winning candidate got about 20000. He then asked for a recount!

Didn't know until now that Robert Lindsay was in fact married at the time to Cheryl Hall who plays his girlfriend in the show.

Not a fan of his 'zany' comedy myself but I noticed that 'The Kenny Everett Video Show' from 1979 is on 'That's TV' ( Freeview channel 7 ) in back to back episodes from 8pm til 1am.
Probably will be of more interest due to the appearance of various bands/artists of the era including Thin Lizzy, Roxy Music, Darts, David Essex, Squeeze, David Bowie, Moody Blues, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, etc.
Percy Thrower turns up in one episode.

Just watching an episode now, I saw these in 79, did have a few funny bits. The woke brigade would have a fit if they made it today.

Yes it wasn't bad, and he did have some decent musical guests on.

Kenny's 'Video Show' hasn't been on for a fair while don't know whether there's been any outside issues (probably not to do with Kenny) preventing it being shown say in the 2013-18 period but the last time I knew it was on was on Granada Plus early '00's.
Personally didn't mind/enjoyed it but wouldn't go out of my way to watch it these days... his later BBC stuff felt a bit stifled and bit toned down compared to these Thames series. When this did go out it was pre-watershed right as it does sail close a few times.
Hope I can get this 'That's TV' channel my reception is...

I think that during the 1970's the BBC and ITV were running neck-and-neck with regards to comedy shows...
Whether it was the 'sitcom' style shows or the big, double-act extravaganzas it was all singing and all dancing on both channels!!
I think there were very different styles (maybe the ITV shows being a tad more 'racy' as it were) but they were all still very good indeed.
It depends on how lazy you were I suppose!! Could you be bothered to get up and change the television channel??!!
Oh for the days before a remote control!!!!!!
