70s comedy in General was just simply summit else compared to today's tosh!! I grew up watching um all!! and just to many to mention! Spike Milligan and the Benny Hill show were my faves!! Especially the hills Angels lol!! people and comedy is so different today, and for the majority! It's not funny, unless it involves the words! ' Reality Tv'

The second series of 'Please Sir' from 1969 is on Forces TV at the moment. Hardly laugh out loud funny, I found myself watching Penny Spencer who plays one of the miniskirted pupils, she was 21 at the time so no harm in it
I was quite surprised by some of the language in it, including b*****d which was used more than once.

I haven't seen Please Sir since it was originally on. Pretty much forgotten about it really, from memory, John Alderton was in it, also Derek Butler and Joan Sanderson, who was the annoying deaf woman in Fawlty Towers episode Communication Problems

It ran for 4 series as well as a spin off film then was followed by a spin off show 'The Fenn Street Gang' which lasted 3 series.
Deryck Guyler you're thinking of Cartman, another regular was Malcolm McFee who played Lukey Sparrow in 'Messenger Of The Gods'.
I remember Please Sir & Fenn Street Gang regular Peter Cleal mostly from this public information film-

I used to love the Dick Emery show as a kid, and he definitely suffered by going to ITV like other BBC acts did. Dick was a really talented comic performer with excellent voice characterisation, I guess that’s why he got the nowhere man gig in yellow submarine. I think his stuff still stands up, but that’s from a middle aged man point of view! You can definitely see his considerable influence on Harry Enfield’s work in the 1990’s. He does however seem a bit forgotten like Marty Feldman which is a real shame. I was also an avid reader of his airfix modellers page in Battle comic. I was always impressed that he loved motorcycles and often incorporated them into his act.

I've got a book where Dick Emery describes his characters called 'In Character', I think he was at his best doing the short street vox pops he is famous for, the longer studio based sketches tend to drag a bit.

I can remember that some of the sketches were filmed in Staines and we'd often recognise them during the show. As I lived near Staines we'd see him from time to time on one of his motorbikes, the most notable that my father was envious of was a BMW R90S identical to this one: I think he lived by the Thames at Staines or Wraysbury at the time. I know Dick lived at Warren Cottage, St Georges Hill in Weybridge at some point. Also in Esher. Gene.

St. Georges Hill? Now you're talking, gaffs there are worth a tidy penny.
