Alex was certainly very nice to look at, she seemed to be a lot less strident in the later series of A2A.
Maybe some prefer L.O.M. because as you say Gene it was set in the seventies, and wasn't as metropolitan as A2A.
They were certainly both great series though. I wish we had something similar on the box now. I'm afraid I have no time for a lot of the Police series being made these days
I would rather watch paint dry than waste a minute on some of them.
Charles.

I saw the first episode and refused to watch the rest. I don't even know how it's all concluded. I guess I'm a Life on Mars purist. It is worth giving another go BS. I remember when LOM was first broadcast I was sceptical about the whether it would be for me and was ready to write it off after the first episode. Thankfully I stuck with it and found that the second was better but by episode three I was hooked. Certainly Alex Drake is a different character to John Simm but after the initial references to Sam Tyler her character develops superbly well in her own right. For me the series was a great progression from LOM whilst still retaining the key characters Gene, Ray, and Chris. Sam.

I've started watching LOM again, with a few episodes on the dud tv night (Tuesday) each week as it is dark at 6pm here now with the season change. So I'm watching you now Sam Tyler.

I bought all LOM & A2A box sets together about 18 months ago as I'd not seen them at all. I was bored with the TV and a friend recommended them.
I was immediately captivated within the first ten minutes of Life on Mars and that continued throughout both series. The ending of LOM when Sam jumped off the roof (which was beautifully choreographed with the music) brings me out goosebumps every time I've seen it.
So, it was with great anticipation that I put on A2A and............what a let down!
I hated it. Spoke to my friend and said I didn't think I'd bother with series 2 and 3 and she told me to keep with it. I am SO glad I did. It was only when I'd watched them all that I realised series 1 was meant to be 'bubble gum pop' and silly, simply because that was how the 80's began (and I know, I was there!).
Series 2 grabbed my attention and I couldn't wait and popped series 3 on straight after finishing it. Oh My Goodness. Jim Keats. What a character.
Am I the only one though who just did not see that ending coming? When Alex was at the gravesite, I genuinely believed it was Sam Tyler in that grave.
When it showed Gene in the farmhouse and the camera panned down to the warrant card showing the dead copper and PC Gene Hunt 6620 my 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO' could be heard echoing round the house as the penny dropped.
Not ashamed to say that I cried when Gene was left alone outside the Railway Arms.
Really, really, really wish Ashleigh Pharoah and Matthew Graham could put their heads together and do a one off special of these brilliant shows.
Best ever.........

I think a few jumped to the wrong conclusion with A2A S1. I think they found Alex a little annoying, which of course she still is For those who stuck with it though, they were rewarded with a fantastic triple series. A "Special" has been mooted for some time now. Ashley Pharoah has dropped a number of hints in recent months, and of course, I've given him plenty of encouragement along the way! Dean Andrews also showed interest so fingers crossed. Gene.

I loved the first episode of A2A. I had no flipping idea who was in that grave. The beauty of seeing the episodes on dvd was that you can watch them greedily one after the other. I agree that it seemed sad for Gene to remain but somehow the 'right' thing. Thank goodness the writers didn't tie things up so completely. Who knows, it leaves the chance of another show one day !

Even Phil said though he thought it wasn't good so that's why they went 'darker' in series 2. Batgirl is right though. Taken into context, all three series of Ashes really work if you have watched them all - to build up to the ending is brilliant.

Last night night we were talking about the music from A.W.P. Several months ago I Picked up a c.d. of Ashes To Ashes series 2 the original Soundtrack.
I'm sure you probably already have it Gene, but if not you can have it. I will bring it to Bingham. As I said though, I bet you have it already.
Charles.
