The race was looking likely to show the pack closing up to Red Bull. Disappointing then that the only credible action was on the first laps. Snoozefest Good to see McLaren's recent form wasn't a flash in the pan. Still puzzled at how Aston have dropped away so much.

The rain didn't do a lot for this race unfortunately. Another fairly uneventful race, unusual for Spa in recent years.

Here's the highlights of a incident packed Dutch GP from yesterday. The result was a little predictable with a Verstappen win again but it was a changeable race some you win and some you lose for the other drivers in the field faced when Mother Nature is on the warpath.

Dutch GP
This race was spiced up quite a bit by the rapidly changing weather at the start and in the last phase of the GP. The drivers were really on it in the dry at the start. This narrow old track could easily push jockeying cars together but everyone kept it pointing the correct way. Alonso's profit from the start was quickly erased when the first bout of rain was next to test the skills. The difference in strategy caused great battles for those opting to stay out on slicks and the order changed rapidly as some opted for Inters. Perez profited here by pitting first and found himself at the top of the order as the Inter clad cars established themselves at the front and the effects of the downpour were nullified in typical Inter fashion.
Verstappen made short work of finding the front again with Perez settling in as the second place car. Alonso in his updated Aston worked his way up to the final podium spot after falling down as a late comer to the Inter in the first phase rain. A poor pit stop by Aston allowed Sainz to temporarily hold third but Alonso was on great form and regained the place after a few laps. Russel, Hamilton and Norris who had also suffered from the wrong choices in the early chaos, worked their way up in to the top ten where they also found Albon holding his own in the Williams.
Just as the race looked to have found its run out order, more rain very quickly arrived from the direction of the North Sea, and we had a Dutch GP bookended by slippery conditions. Verstappen had time to pit without losing first. Perez looked to have overcooked it when he went off but was fortunate to re-join the scrap with no damage. Alonso was promoted to second from this incident and the red flag shortly followed.
The remaining 5 laps on inter's didn't change the top of the order however Russel lost out from a puncture in a racing incident with Norris battling each other for 7th. Russel had to retire.
This race had plenty of great driving in the changeable conditions and the result was hard earned by all. Very hard to pick a driver of the day but I'll shout Alonso for pushing the Red Bull team all the way and splitting the dominant teams cars.
What is the point of a wet tyre in this series if only one car chose it during heavy rain ? The inter negates the jeopardy of rain far too much. Look at the skill on show for a couple of wet laps on slicks, that was great ! With this in mind I think it would be better to have a tyre that falls somewhere between the current slick and inter. It would need to get nervous if pushed but needs to be far less dominant as the current inter is. That way the skill of the driver in the wet would be the factor that prevails while maintaining a degree of safety due to slower speeds and less spray. Currently every time it rains heavy with these cars the race is red flagged, so no need for a full wet, and in damp conditions the inter dominates easily and seems easy to control the car and even push which reduces the effect rain has on the race.
