I might search that Mansell doc out this week, a great driver but never really warmed to him (a bit of a whinger, political) in the same way I did with Prost, Senna, Piquet etc. Still he was amazing in the car when he was in harmony with it in a era the cars were absolutely dog nasty and crazily fast to drive unlike today's machines. I liked the Williams documentary film too although it didn't paint Claire Williams that well let's say. Thanks for the heads up Steve.

It'll definitely change your view. I never thought of him as a whinger, I always admired him and his ability but I always thought that there was a continued level of animosity between him and Ayrton Senna even though there was a mutual respect. The documentary cleared that up but also demonstrated the issues he faced after Colin Chapman's passing. The only issue that I did have with Nigel was that he never attended Senna's funeral due to playing in a Pro-Am golf tournament. The other thing it showed was some proper overtaking moments and battles for position with similar machinery that you only got before DRS. Sam.

I haven't seen the Williams documentary but will put it on my list to see. If it didn't paint Claire Williams in a bright light well that sounds accurate. I am sure many people were wishing she would relinquish the control and management of Williams. Even I was wishing she would go as the team continued to spiral downwards under her realm.

The Hungary F1 race will be interesting to watch now that McLaren have become competitive. I enjoyed watching Silverstone.
The hype over Daniel Ricciardo's return is ridiculous and I am a big Dan fan. I believe that a new driver deserves a full year so Nyck de Vries should have been allowed to stay and continue to learn with experience. Dan won't get points in that car, so what is Alpha Tauri's point.
Anyway roll onto qualifying and the race in Hungary.

Anyway roll onto qualifying and the race in Hungary. I think it is simply a stop gap for Ricciardo with a plan to replace Perez in the main team before too long... Red Bull have destroyed Perez' motivation and confidence. They are loyal only to one driver, just as they were with Vettel when he was alongside Webber. GH.

I can't belive how bad he's (Perez) been over the last four races. He was flying at the start of the season.

Red Bull have destroyed Perez' motivation and confidence. They are loyal only to one driver, just as they were with Vettel when he was alongside Webber. GH. Some good points there BG and Gene. The RBR/AT set up was in my opinion very, very harsh on Nyck de Vries and in all honesty he should have been given more time but modern F1 is a harsh sport and the days of journeyman drivers plodding the circuits for a few seasons are long gone. You've got to be a instant superstar now in the sport and if not you're out although the comparable example Mick Schumacher was given a significant amount of more time over de Vries in the Haas (Ferrari) set up and his 'sacking' seemed harsh too. Having said this and this is no disrespect I think drivers like de Vries have more of a right to be on the grid than say money talks drivers like Lance Stroll who a few decent results aside will not really be a champion driver and is in the sport as a plaything due to his very rich father. de Vries did come up through the ranks like George Russell and Lando Norris for example so should have had at the very least a proper season to have proved himself in F1, sadly I think his outstanding stand-in race at Williams hasn't really helped de Vries here too and regardless of some teams doing their best to stop new entrants into the sport the likes of a Andretti or Hitech coming in might give a lifeline to drivers who've been a bit burned out in F1 and not just from the Red Bull stable either. The Toro Rosso/Alpha Tauri set up can be brutal for a driver if you don't impress like de Vries you're out. If you do like Daniil Kvyat or Alex Albon you're promoted to Red Bull and if things go wrong you're cast aside (like s***) to at best back at Toro Rosso/Alpha Tauri at worst out of the game. At the very least the other 'junior' teams (specifically the Ferrari affiliates) have given more time to their drivers to impress and even here from outsiders looking in that doesn't seem to be much for an outsider looking in too. This isn't nothing new mind you, Alain Prost was 'sacked' by a Ferrari in disarray in 1991 when in so many words he compared the dog of F92A as 'handling like a truck', Nigel Mansell had a love/hate relationship with the personnel at Williams and IIRC Jean Alesi had a bit of a set two with Flavio Briatorie and Benneton too. The difference is these drivers had time to establish themselves and find a lifeline to another team even if it was a step down. Drivers like de Vries, (Mick) Schumacher and Kvyat and a fair few others from the 2000's onwards haven't really had those luxuries and at best they end up with the worst team(s) at the back of the grid or in other forms of motorsport like Formula E or in the US with Indycar etc. Right or wrong Danny Ricciardo in now in the seat and like you BG I like him and want him to do well. It could as Gene says be a move to promote him into Perez's seat at Red Bull. Danny certainly has the experience to drag that Alpha Tauri up the field although I'm not sure whether he's carrying some baggage from his McLaren season that went off the rails last year and if things do lead to Red Bull will it all end in tears as it did in 2017-18 when he was teammate with Verstappen and gradually wore him down to get away from their set up. As famously... Hopefully even if Ricciardo's only involved until the end of the season he can do okay and pull off some decent results. F1 needs new faces and new blood to continue to evolve and be successful. If they're not given the chance to prove themselves this isn't really going to happen and eventually the likes of Alonso, Hamilton and even Verstappen will move on and will we just have 20 anonymous drivers on the grid or 20 given their chance to develop and put their personality on the sport like the top drivers of the recent past have done.
