Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi It is not intentional that they're all female singers and there are male artists that will have me changing channels too but the above are usually accompanied by the statement "... and you can f*** off too!" Sam. You've got me worried now, Sam. I'm beginning to think Mrs Nightfly has hacked your account ! She puts her fingers in her ears to avoid the false laugh at the end of Big Yellow Taxi and utters EXACTLY the same statement before hitting the off switch on some songs too.

Yes, Dire Straits - the early stuff, Sultans, Lady Writer, Communique with sophisticated composition and Knopfler's guitar solos were brilliant, but then went all a bit too commercial with Walk of Life and Money for Nothing, both of which suffer from the dreaded overplaying bug. D.C. Burtonshaw mentioned Neil Diamond earlier. How did Sweet Caroline manage to be taken over by the TV sports/betting crowd over the past few years and subsequently become something that makes you dive for the off switch ? Party Fears Two by The Associates must be one of the worst songs ever recorded, truly The poor lead singer does sound like he's got his unmentionables caught in a vice on that track.

One Dire straits song I do like and is rarely played is Twisting by the pool, which is a bit similar in style to Walk of Life, but, IMO, better

It's a great song but the ending is a nightmare goes on forever. If ever a song needed a radio edit I like most of the songs discussed on this thread but like I said I rarely play them. If I hear an overplayed track after its had a fair rest I find that it can be enjoyable. After I find its back in favour it doesn't take long before it needs a long rest period again. A couple to add.. Human League - Don't You Want Me Aha- Take On Me Berlinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth I mention the above tracks mainly because Heart and other similar radio stations played them so much when I listened to them during the working day.

Still on the subject of The Beatles, Hello Goodbye. I just think it's repetitive and banal.

Yeah it's the playlists of Heart etc which can kill some songs off as even if they're good they can be played to death to the point you're sick of them. Not really pinpointing a specific song of theirs but always never really had much time of Supergrass (can't bloody stand Alright ), Kula Shaker and Ocean Colour Scene or to a lesser extent Travis, Stereophonics, Keane etc. No disrespect to the band's as such but just not really my thing and couldn't really get with it with the stuff they were coming out with when they had their period in the spotlight. 90's & 00's period Weller was a bit '60's Mod by Numbers' for me too not really in the same league as The Jam material from (back then) 15 odd years earlier too. Sure their fans might think the same about the stuff I like.

Generally don't like or hate Dire Straits or Mark's material but yeah "Money for Nothing" is the big hit which gets played to death!

One Weller song from the 90s I do like is You do something for me, from the album Stanley Road. Also Knopfler did, IMO, a great song, early 00s I think, What it is.
