Another radio edit which bugs me is The Eagles Lyin Eyes. That is one of my all time favourite songs, and every time Greatest Hits radio play it, they miss out the middle verse

I see a pattern evolving for a lot of the suggested songs and that is they have all suffered from severe cases of overplay. A lot of the 80s stuff on the list like Billy Joel- Uptown Girl , Madonna- Material Girl, Tears For Fears- Everybody Wants To Rule The World have been absolutely hammered and had exposure like nothing before due to the video age. So you had it on radio, tv pop shows, MTV, kids saturday tv, chat shows, the list goes on. This over exposure turned these fine pop hits into instant switch offs. You can't let them rest all too easy either thanks to adverts, film and tv usage and cheesy cover versions for charity events.
I saw Tears For Fears live the other week and the set was varied and EBWTRTW sounded great in that setting. When it comes on the radio I would likely switch channels.

I do find American Pie a bit tedious. Most of Led Zepplin for me, except Stairway to Heaven.

Radio in particular these days is so formula driven and they go for the safest option which in case of Tears For Fears is always EWTRTW and not Change, Head Over Heals or Sewing The Seeds of Love. Similar thing with Queen - always B ohemian Rhapsody or Kind of Magic and never Seven Seas of Rhye etc. I can maybe understand why they don't risk an obscure album track for an artist, but often popular hits are ignored in favour of just the best selling one repeated over again in fear that someone might tune away/turn off.

Another one I've noticed is Hot Stuff by Donna Summer. That is played a lot on the radio, but Bad Girls, which was out at the same time (summer 79) and is similar in style, is rarely played.

One reason I banned radios in the office, can't stand hearing the same songs all day. They can have it on the shop floor but drives me potty in the office.

OK - Is it me but I always seem to find The Eages "Hotel California" seems to be played in places like shops (as "muzak") or in cinema toilets or train stations.............. - not a favourite of mine but no problem if others on here like it.
Another I didn't used to like years ago (but probably don't mind it as much now) - Carole Bayer Sager - You're moving out today
I also got fed up of anything Neil Diamond did - as it suffered from overplay courtesy of Terry Wogan!
Cinderella Rockefella by Esther and Abi Ofarim. - (Blooming silly song.....)
Buggles - Video killed the Radio Star

The Buggles track I love! Haven't heard Cinderella Rockerfella for years, vaguely remember it from when I was a kid in the 60s when it came out

There aren't that many songs that cause me to hit the channel change or power button but the following always do:
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Katrina & The Waves - Walking On Sunshine Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On Toni Basil - Mickey Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi
It is not intentional that they're all female singers and there are male artists that will have me changing channels too but the above are usually accompanied by the statement "... and you can f*** off too!"
Sam.

Funny this music job isn't it! There's only the Celine Dion one on that list I'm not keen on
