I've just been looking through the new range of Scalextric proposed for 2023 and was very interested to see that they propose to build the FAB1 from Thunderbirds. I have a couple of plastic kits that are just one of my 'projects' that I was going to design and 3D print a chassis for so thought that the new model would save me a job. But then I saw the rendering: To me the rendering is all to cock. If they manufacture based on that then it will be a shocker. The radiator grill is far too steep an angle and the roofline is too high, amongst many other details. I've pre-ordered one for myself but I think I'll be keeping the plastic kits in reserve. Sam. I've now seen the first mock-up of the FAB1 "in the flesh" and my initial fears appear to have been realised. The radiator grill is too inclined, the roof too high and the front screen too steep when compared to the original Supermarionation produced Rolls-Royce: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cs17WeMKy09 It is disappointing and although I've pre-ordered one from Scalextric I've a feeling it may be the first "Film & TV" model that I've purchased that I'll regret. Sam.

I was looking at various European four wheeled goodies recently on pinterest and found this... Villain The Spanish Scalextric is a different brand to the rest of the world. Scalextric had factories in various countries manufacturing variants of cars and track many years ago. Countries such as Spain, Mexico and even Russia had their own factories and the products were shipped all over. The Exin tie-in on the rear of the van was the owner of the brand in Spain after Scalextric sold it off however they managed to retain the Scalextric brand name. Consequently the UK Scalextric is sold in Spain has to be rebranded as Superslot and the Spanish Scalextric sold in the UK rebranded as SCX. Sam.

Piece of trivia, it was originally called Scalex and the cars were clockwork. Later fitted with electric motors, so the name was changed to Scalextric.

Does anyone here subscribe to Motor Sport magazine? If so there's an excellent article on slot car racing that was written by our (AWOL) member Endeavour Morse with photos taken at the club that he and I attend each week. The article is available to read online >>> HERE <<< for subscribers. The article was written back in December and we had a race evening at the end of January in which the brand manager of Scalextric joined us at the club and a photographer was bought in to capture the smudges as the evening progressed. We still had a competitive evening's racing though and the Scalextric brand manager also bought along some early pre-production samples of soon to be released models for us to comment on. I'd like to be able to post up a copy of the article itself but as the magazine is the current edition I am not permitted to do so. Given time though... Sam.
