These are the braids that I tend to use on my cars: >>> NSR braids <<<These are a soft copper that make good contact with the slot rails but do not raise the guide blade from the slot. Although softer than the standard Scalextric braids I've still not had to replace a pair in any of my cars. Sam.

I should have looked closer at the Gaugemaster website; get quite a bit from them for my sons Model Railway.
Thanks Sam!

It seems that Brett and Danny enjoyed playing with their Scalextric (in French of course)...!!

And so did Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Alfred and "Aunt" Harriet Cooper: Amazing that Bruce Wayne's car doesn't seem to crash off despite his thumb throttle being constantly at full throttle. Sam.

A bit of a diversion but I was looking at how the quality and detail of various track pieces has decreased over the years. I recently picked up a near new "Flying Leap" in a collection that I'd bought and was very disappointed on how bland it was in comparison to the original Flying Leap from back in the early 70s. The most recent "Flying Leap" is the C8211 as shown below: This consists of a pretty basic chevroned take-off ramp and a chevroned landing ramp both of which that slot into a standard straight. Although there have been a couple of variations in between, compare that to the original A269 flying leap shown below: This consists of two pre-cut sections of 'collapsed road', a rocky ravine, two sections of track to guide the car back into the slot and a pair of jumper cables (not shown) to link the disconnected track sections. Whilst the 'rocky ravine' is a basic vacuum formed piece of plastic, many still survive as I have three complete sets in my collection. Sure there would be a price difference but look at the attention to detail of the old track in comparison to the new. Whilst many kids receiving a set at Christmas would be none the wiser I'm sure that such extra detail would add a whole lot more to a kid's enjoyment. Sam.
