Why in the name of Frank Haskins is the Syfy channel showing The Sweeney at 11pm tonight? The naff 2012 version. It was crap but not sci-fi crap. It is its own unique form of Sci-Fi in that it is so far fetched that most of it is unbelievable, incredulous and incomprehensible. Either that or it is utter b***ocks, I'll leave you to make your own choice. Sam.

There isn't (yet) a channel called "Total b***ocks" or "Total b***ocks +1" or even "Total b***ocks HD"... there's plenty enough material to fill the schedules though. I dread to think what their logo would look like....

Certainly couldn't have been any worse than Winstone and Drew.
Not seen it for nearly seven years, hope to go much longer than that if I can.

The best ones are those that make you think, not just some visual feast of colours/zombies etc. The first Alien is a case in point, the later ones were just a gore-fest of nonsense.

Allowing people in prison to change their names e.g. the rapist John Worboys has changed his name to John Radford.
Should be John I'm a Raping B*****d.
Stop allowing them to hide their identity.

They also do it with predatory Peadophiles too. They will get locked up for 10years, serve half of their sentence and then are released with a new identity - and as has happened before, re-offended. They seem to have more rights than the victims.
In most of the rape and murder cases - if they committed their crimes 60years ago - they'd have never come out - if they did it would have been in a Hearse - as they were all hung.
The two Bulger Killers are out and about - under new identities. One of the killers is a repeat Peado, and they keep moving him. He was moved to an Estate close to mine a few years ago - that was until the local Vigilantes found out and tried to set fire to his nice sw***y house provided by the Council, 200 yards from a Primary School and the Municipal Swimming Baths. Couldn't make it up, could you?
I like the way the authorities portray it as "For their own safety"...
What about the Safety of the law abiding people living nearby?

That’s utterly insane. It’s actually only recently I knew much about that story as it happened a week after I was born (not the nicest associated story in history!) but I tried to read a book written by the victim’s mother but only got about 1/3 of the way through. It’s too sad. Exactly as you say; why on earth they get the chance to reoffend is beyond me. It’s supposedly all about rehabilitation but I don’t think you can change someone who does something like that. There’s got to be a fundamental flaw to do something so evil.

The Bulger case I remember vivdly as it was all over the news in early 1993, at the time - my Sister was the same age as Jamie - so it really hit home. It was that trial that made me really sit and think about British justice - the two offenders were sent of a Rehab Holiday (at our expense). They were then kept out of the way, with new identities. As soon as they reached Adulthood - they were both released. Considering how horiffic their crime was, they should be still locked up.
In a recent case, with the Terror Attacks in London. The Terrorist was on a Tag, released from Prison on Licence. He chose to join a Terror group.
He was also given a second chance.
The people he injured and murdered didn't get a chance or say in any of it.

The Sweeney ought to have been shown on the Horror Channel.
On the issue of creating new identities for criminals, would there be a need to do this if it weren't for the questionable ethics of allowing the press to report such crimes in the first place? The killers & abusers become household names & faces. What's worse still is the victims of these types of crimes are often obliged to change their identities too.
I remember seeing a documentary on Maxine Carr ( girlfriend of Ian Huntley ) called 'Being Maxine Carr', it didn't concern Carr at all but the many innocent women who had been mistaken for Carr & hounded by local residents. Carr was given a new identity, the scumbag tabloids made as much of it as they will & created a witchunt of innocent women in the process.
The question for me is always 'why does the public need to know about these crimes'? The police often require the help of the public of course in investigating these crimes, but why are the press allowed to pervert this into entertainment? Investigations into sensitive crimes should be kept as low key & anonymous as is possible, not to protect the perpetrators but to protect the victims & their families. The press have absolutely no moral compass as we have seen, to them victims of crime are simply cash cows to be milked.

Indeed Arthur. I don't agree with the Press/Media constantly hounding Suspects/Victims.
There was a case in Bristol - where a Student was murdered. The Landlord was arrested, question and released without any charge. While he was in custody - the Press had literally knocked on doors, scoured his facebook page and virtually convicted him because he "looked a bit strange".
It transpired, he had sod all to do with the Murder - it was her ex Boyfriend who was later convicted.
The Poor landlord ended up with a small apology, and a poncy bit of compensation - and then expected to get on with his life as if nothing happened.
Also - these Peado Vigilante Groups get my goat too. Many of them are judge/jury and executioner. In fact as story was on the lunchtime news about a group who had been taken to court for pouncing on the wrong person - and then posting it all over their Youtube Channel.
One of my neighbours is a Detective and deals day in day out with all this - and tells me that the Groups are more a hindrance, because they complicate what may otherwise be a simple case - as most of the "evidence" is posted all over the internet long before a suspect has even been questioned. The way they gather the evidence is also questionable too.
As Sam Tyler said in another thread - it's all down to "Bragging Rights" and "Youtube likes".
