Another thing I don't get is false exhaust pipes on cars.
I've noticed a few recently such as an Audi that had twin tail pipes exiting the rear bumper that were both blanked off and a standard, much smaller, twin tailpipe pointing down ahead of the rear bumper.
However, yesterday I was following a 2015 Mercedes (that I found later to be a 2.1 litre diesel) that had large diameter quad chrome "exhausts" exiting the rear bumper. As I got closer to it while in a queue my car's headlights shone straight into the pipes and clearly displayed that the two inner tailpipes were blanked off and fixed directly over a painted panel, and the outer two tailpipes each had a small semi-circular bore in the centre. Now whilst I understand the aesthetics of four chrome tailpipes and I understand that exhausts are tuned for back-pressure etc, if a manufacturer is going to go to those lengths why not make them fully functional with the necessary constrictions appropriate to the engine further back down the system?
Sam.
