Hi all I noticed this is coming on next week. Not really fussed either way with the original PS but does anyone get the feeling with this version and it being set in 1973 that it's a bit (a lot) of a LoM rip off? May give it a watch but not really one of those shows that grips me to be fair.

First I've heard DE but it'll take something special to even get near LOM. I'll see what it's like though. Cheers for the heads up Gene.

I saw this advertised DE but am not sure whether it will be my cup of Darjeeling.
I might give it a look but I've noticed that instead of going for remakes we're seeing a trend for the prequel of earlier successful shows. Morse had Lewis as a follow-up but now we've got Endeavour, OFAH had Rock And Chips, and now we've this one. I've probably missed others out.
Prime Suspect was DCI Jane Tennison played by the inimitable Helen Mirren throughout, will the prequel have the same intensity of character? I'm not sure, I have my doubts but I'll probably watch it and hope to be surprised.
Sam.

I will give it a go, purely as it is set in the 70s, I agree that in terms of quality it is unlikely to match the original Prime Suspect though The Saint

I don't fancy it somehow. I never really got into Prime Suspect at all and I suspect that it will be a cliché fest - ooh wasn't it sexist, all those drab colours and so on. Not many programmes capture the real 70s vibe properly, one of the few which did was Cradle to Grave with Peter Kay

I'm 50/50 whether I'll watch it myself but just think it's a bit (very) coincidential they've plumped for 1973 with the year this spin off is set in. Probably Cartman's post sums up what this might be like and also reckon the original creator of PS Lynda La Plante isn't really involved in this either.

We'll have to have a 70s cliche watch for this programme... Power Strikes (or strikes full stop) Sexism Prawn Cocktail Clunking Leyland Cars Everyone smoking tabs Dog shit police routines Brown and orange wallpaper Prominent GPO 746 phones .... hang on I'm taking the p*** out of LOM too! :D

That's not cliche... it's attention to detail Gene.

I've seen the advert to this and will try and give it a whirl but yes I too noticed it seemed a bit too convenient it was set in 1973!! Albeit with the Met. Of course by rights we all know a certain flying squad DI could be walking past this dramas characters in the Scotland Yard corridors at this time.....
