I watched the race late last night after recording it. What a race! Incident filled to say the least.
Look away now if you haven't watched and don't want to spoil it.
Big congratulations to Danny R. Kept himself out of trouble and nicked the win from out of the blue. Raikkonen seems unable to keep himself out of trouble this year. Despite laying the full blame at the door of Bottas for their early collision, Raikkonen had an awful day yesterday.
The Force India pair got themselves into even more hot water after their silly Canada points giveaway. The team really need to sort the Perez/Ocon situation out as they are wasting valuable points from a car that is really performing well this season.
Where do I start with Vettel and Hamilton?
Vettel has earned a lot of respect from me in the past 2 years. Sadly, he's lost most of that now. I thought his volatile nature had mellowed since his Webber spats of old but yesterday, he showed clear signs of cracking. I know there are a few on here that are not Hamilton fans but with yesterdays events, I think it is a clear cut case that Lewis was totally innocent. Vettel drove into the back of Hamilton during a safety car period whilst Hamilton held the lead. If this wasn't enough, the German then immediately drew level with Hamilton on track behind the safety car and rammed into the side of Hamiltons car while waving his arms about accusing Hamilton of brake testing him. However, Hamilton was totally exonerated by the FIA after viewing his telemetry proved that Hamilton neither braked nor lifted at that point on track and drove exactly the same way as he had on the previous laps behind the safety car.
Vettel was handed a 10 second stop-go penalty (and given 3 points on his super license) but unfortunately, Hamilton had a technical issue with his head rest becoming loose. This led to him being instructed to pit to fit a new head rest. The net result was that he came out behind Vettel who had served his penalty.
Personally, I think Vettel's behaviour warranted a black flag. His actions yesterday should have received harsher punishment. There is a belief (in the German press) that the Stewards didn't hand out a heavier punishment for fear of affecting the Championship standings. If this is the case, then they failed in their intent as Vettel was allowed to collect 12 points after setting such a bad example.... for a multiple World Champion.
Sky F1 believe that Vettel may still yet be punished further though.
For the record, he now has 9 points on his license. 3 more and he gets a ban.
Gene.

Vettel's aggressive road rage driving shouldn't be tolerated and he should have been penalised more severely for causing a collision and then for losing control of his car and crashing into Lewis during the SC period. Romain Grosjean was given a one-race ban for causing a collision at the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix, so there seems to be an inconsistency between the two incidents.
Well done to Lance Stroll though.

Good write up on the race Gene Hunt. Indeed what a race. The 23 minutes where the drivers got out of their cars and waited for all the debris to be cleared was surprising. When has that ever happened before ! Vettel should have been penalised further and reprimanded much more than the weak ten second penalty. Totally pleased with the win by Dan Ricciardo. Lovely to see Stroll get 3rd. Very exciting for him. The Force India team need to start acting like a team.

The FIA have reopened the Vettel / Hamilton case for further examination with the possibility of handing out further punishment for Vettel's indiscretion. Gene.

End of the road for big bad Ron at McLaren. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula-one/40455584Can't say I'm surprised... what does surprise me is how they've exited the man who brought all the success to McLaren and made them what they are today. Be very interesting to see where McLaren go from here.
