Honourable mention to Echo & The Bunnymen with The Cutter but note to Ian McCulloch, keep your shirt on mate. He must have been feeling the heat in the studio Steve or he was selling his clothes to buy The Beatles single.

Anyone else still watching these? Personally, I thought that with a few exceptions, this era was pretty crap but it's still worth a look. I got out of the habit of watching it but I have caught some episodes, problem is I find myself watching tv less & less so I tend to miss things or forget they're on. Watched last night's programme, thought the Fleetwood Mac number was terrible & found myself enjoying Kajabloodygoogoo, Nick Beggs is a top bass player, does anyone remember Ellis, Beggs & Howard? They were quite big in the late 80s, had a couple of minor hits with 'Big Bubbles No Troubles' & 'Bad Times'.

Yeah I remember Ellis Beggs and Howard Art. They were okay-ish if say music I'm indifferent too. Seem to remember 'Big Bubbles' had a couple of releases in '88 but for some reason just missed the Top 40 chart rundown like #41 or #43 or something. Having said that would sooner have seen those guys have a bigger hit back then instead of the S/A/W dross which was around back then.

Yeah, there was certainly a lot of rubbish about in the late 80's.

No TOTP previews anymore? Anyone else still watching these? Personally, I thought that with a few exceptions, this era was pretty crap but it's still worth a look. Steve , Windy has spoiled us over the last few years with his TOTP previews and is quite rightly taking a break. It was my intention to preview some of the repeats but alas I've only managed one this month Maybe we could share the role amongst anyone that is interested. Much like the different guest presenter every week on Never Mind The Buzzcocks 1983 was a year i really remember well so its been interesting viewing so far. Loved Eurythmics, Tears For Fears, Howard Jones to name but a few. 1983 was the year I bought my first single with my own pocket money and became a regular record buyer from that point on. The single i bought was Kajagoogoo- Too Shy so have a soft spot for this track. Its a good sound ,very contemporary. I don't remember Ellis, Beggs & Howard, by 1988 i was getting into House music in a big way so this passed me by. The charts were increasingly becoming flooded with S.A.W stuff back then. Much of this was pony as Dirty Said earlier I also remember 1983 for being the start of the NOW and Hits series of compilations. They were the first albums i bought. Going to catch up on the 3/2/83 last episode tonight. Looking at the schedules for next week its back to showing two episodes. So looks like the double year format is staying BBC Four Schedules

No TOTP previews anymore? Steve , Windy has spoiled us over the last few years with his TOTP previews and is quite rightly taking a break. Yes, it’s a shame that the Top Of The Pops reviews has ended, but I felt it was time. I really enjoyed doing them, but I found that researching the shows, double checking the facts, selecting what is interesting enough for a preview and discussion, getting the words to flow in a coherent and entertaining way and selecting a picture that’s relevant adds up to a lot of work. With two TOTPs per week the task is made twice as big. Ironically, a greater number of comments have been added to 1983, without the need for the narrational embellishment. I look forward to reading everyone's comments as TOTPs continues its run on BBC Four.

Thanks for all of your efforts, I really enjoyed reading them.

Yes, well done Windy, I have enjoyed your reviews too. Have to echo a couple of comments from Arthur and Dirty, music really started to nosedive from about 83 onwards and by the late 80s was utter rubbish. I call the period 1984-95 ish the wilderness years as far as chart music was concerned.
A year or two ago I did some mix CD downloads and did a series based on years. My collection from 75 (the year I used as my start point) to 80 had to run to about 4 or 5 CDs for each year, 81-3 was accommodated onto one per year and the whole of the late 80s-early 90s was accommodated onto just one

'F**k' is about what I thought when I got some Vegemite last year to try it I've still got the jar & give it to customers I want to be rid of when they ask for Marmite on toast.
