Nice to see lots of posts on here since my last visit ! It's a shame we are looking at December 1983 epsiodes around the May Bank Holidayweekend in 2017 though - I always preferred it when they used to be shown as "this time that year" before, but we all know why and that's the way it is ... The 8/12/83 episode was a truly A-list affair. If I was to do a picture round at my quiz nights of the 8 acts featured either in the studio or on video , I would honestly excpect most teams to score max points, each one a 1983 icon, yes, even the Flying Pickets who claimed their place in the hall of fame with a Xmas No:1. The 15/12/83 one was a bit more patchy but I really enjoyed it all the same ... UB40's "Blues Brothers" inspired video was good ... Barry Manilow as a harlequin was amusing (the song was poo though!) ... Kenny & Dolly gave a spirited live peformance in the USA ... and the aforementioned Pickets did their famous "melting snowmen" trick for us ... Seeing The Pretenders sing "2000 Miles" reminded me we will no douby have to suffer the odd Xmas song over the next week or two - not good, I don't even like Xmas songs at Xmas let alone when it's the start of summer and temperatures are in the mid 20s !! FFWD time I feel ... On a personal level, the Status Quo song brought back a lot of memories - I used to be virtually the only "Soul Boy" in a football team dominated by "Headbangers" and they all loved Quo. "Margarita Time" was always a huge fave of the lads at the Sunday night after match discos I occasionally did for them in 1983 & 1984 - my ears are still ringing with the raucous chant of "LET'S HAVE A DRINK!!" along to that bit in the song ! Happy memories, they spent their money on beer - and I got paid to be there ! ... Finally, I know it's often difficult to keep your attention on he screen as the audience dance to the playout track each week, but in the 15/12/83 episode look out for a girl dressed in grey standing totally static, hands on hips, looking really p***ed off, while everyone else around her boogies on down to Kool & the Gang - bet she preferred Bauhaus ... lol ... I will try and get back on here before New Year's Eve and we welcome in 1984, if not "Happy Nooooo Year" everybody !!!
