ooops, how could i get Janice Long and Annie Nightingale mixed up
You're right Frank DLT and Tone look a little yesteryear in a 80's TOTP with a dodgy post punk band
I've just watched this weeks offerings from November 1983.
As ever thanks for the rundown go to Popscene
10/11/83Presenters David Jensen & John Peel
(26)Musical Youth – “007”
(5)Adam Ant – “Puss ‘N Boots”
(32)Marilyn – “Calling Your Name”
(27)Eurythmics – “Right By Your Side”
(20)Limahl – “Only For Love”
(10) The Cure – “The Love Cats”
(1)Billy Joel – “Uptown Girl”
(30) Joy Division – “Love Will Tear Us Apart”
Don't remember watching this one or the tracks by Musical Youth, Adam Ant or Limahl. Mind you the only one of the three that
didn't get the old FFD treatment was Musical Youth.
I enjoyed the tracks by Eurythmics and The Cure. Rob Smith was cool all the way through this performance, so laid back
that he couldn't be arsed guitar playing raised a chuckle
Best buds Peel and Jensen raided the dressing up box again (Why ffs) and were having a laugh through this one.
The mic poses at the end did make me laugh though.
24/11/83Presenters Simon Bates & Richard Skinner
(5) Paul Young – “Love Of The Common People”
(16) Tina Turner – “Let’s Stay Together”
(30)The Smiths – “This Charming Man”
(14)Thompson Twins – “Hold Me Now”
(9)Marilyn – “Calling Your Name”
(25)Simple Minds – “Waterfront”
(11)The Style Council – “A Solid Bond In Your Heart”
(1) Billy Joel – “Uptown Girl”
(15) Eurythmics – “Right By Your Side”
Enjoyed the Smiths performance the most on this one but would've dismissed this at the time as they have been an acquired
taste over the years. Tina does a great vocal on her cover of Al Greens 1972 classic Lets Stay Together. The song suffers slightly
now from sounding contemporary 80's musically. Still its that rarest of things a great cover version.
Bates and Skinner wasn't a winner. The pair nearly made me fetch up my dinner
