Not seen any water polo yet. One event that dumbs down the Olympics for me is beach volleyball, clearly introduced as a crowd pleasing event ( no need to explain why ) as indoor volleyball was already included. You have to consider some of the sports that aren't included- cricket, squash, powerlifting, etc. & wonder.

Sports that have the Olympics as their pinnacle should only be included. Football, Tennis, Golf in my opinion, should not be included as Olympic sports.

And to be honest; in my opinion any so-called 'sport' at any level that involves an animal should be banned.

I'm enjoying the Olympics it's hard not to be swept along with all the heavy tv coverage including BBC Olympic breakfast all week !
I agree about the football, tennis, golf we have so much of that throughout the year and their own tournaments have been so recent.
I do like the variety though, rowing, diving, field events even the shooting. Finding the best of the best through such a diverse range of disciplines is inspiring. However as a horse rider who has struggled to get a horse to move I respect the skills of the show jumping. There is absolutely a great deal of rider skill to make the horses perform, the fact that it looks so easy to the viewer really is a testament to this.

The Olympics bores the pants off me too. Apart from football, I'm not interested in sport at all

Like many people, i'll watch the sports which i'm interested in. With the Olympics it's mostly cycling, particularly the road race and time trial which are both early on. In 2012 i did go to Surrey to watch the mens road race near Box Hill and to Richmond to see the time trial. I was amazed by the size of the crowds, it was estimated a million people lined the route of the road race between London and Surrey. This is in sharp contrast to the mid eighties when i went to see The Milk Race in the Peak District and the only people cheering the riders on were me and my Dad. 2012 Olympic Time Trial in Richmond. Bradley Wiggins who went on to win the gold medal.

Nice one Pete. i have enjoyed the cycling in this Olympics. The guys have lit the track up !! Alas the road race was a tricky old course and Froome looked spent after this summer's exploits on the tour.

The Olympics has been on the box a hell of a lot in our house, as the missus has really gotten into it this time. I don't mind at all as I watch my stuff after nine o' clock as a rule. Actually I've enjoyed it a bit myself, but as has been said, they seem to have too many sports that have their own tournaments.

They've certainly done well on the track Del, but with the eye-watering amount of funding British Cycling's getting from the Lottery the pressure to succeed is clearly on.
