Good stuff again Windy. I always thought Musical Youth charted in '82 earlier in the year around April/May time but seems I was wrong unless 'Dutchie' got re-released. It's a bit of a indifferent track for me don't really like or hate it. But there's way better examples of Reggae and poppy Reggae than this. Just out of interest is there a reason for The Beatles Love Me Do re-release, film, revised version etc? Suppose my pick of the bunch are The Pretenders and Tears for Fears and their version of Mad World is still the best one regardless of the Michael Andrews/Gary Jules version making #1 in 2003. BIB
Yes. 20th anniversary since this, the first Beatles single, was released.

Ah wondered the reason behind it Windy. Again always think of The Beatles being the sound of 1963 rather than their years before.

Survivor's singer reminded me of our regular TOTP thread contributor Frank Spencer!

Survivor's singer reminded me of our regular TOTP thread contributor Frank Spencer! That video features a Man Strut as the band walk to the plumber's merchants for a rehersal. It's good, but The Bee Gees set the bench mark high and do it better with their man strut in Stayin' Alive.

What makes it funny is that I don't think it was meant to be tongue in cheek, even when they're pretending to be sweaty at the end.

If you're not a fan of UB40 you probably wouldn't have watched the BBC4 documentary on them last Friday, but I happened to turn it on & it's worth watching on iplayer as the band, containing as you may know 3 brothers, had a massve fall out. They now exist as 2 separate bands, both called UB40 with singer Ali Campbell no longer in contact with his family.

I was a big fan of UB40 back in the early 80's, and it is such a shame to learn that things have worked out for the band in such a bad way. The bankruptcies aside, having sold so many records and made so much money from world tours, it is a tragedy that this once great band are in this situation. The only winners will be the lawyers.

Cheers for the heads up i'll have a look on iplayer.

Just enjoyed my "double dose" of Peel on TOTP - and the acts weren't bad either ! On the first show it was great to see the full, classic line-up of Shalamar, Howard Hewett, Jeffrey Daniels & Jody Watley, in top form on "There It Is" and the soul boy in me also enjoyed the clip of "Zoom" by Fat Larry's Band - could you guess which one was Larry ?? I also read up on Dollar, knowing that they weren't always "best friends", but gave a highly spirited performance on this TOTP - oh my, they've split up more times than Dexy's sang "Come On Eileen" on the Pops !! lol Talking of whom, such a shame we missed out on seeing "Jocky Wilson Said" in its original context, though the clip is widely avaialble elsewhere, but at least we saw Culture Club's lucky break of a debut appearance. I have to admit fast-forwading through the video for "Eye Of The Tiger" ( I watched it the first two times!!) but yes I was thinking how unusual it was to see Frank Spencer (no relation) and BA Barracas from the A Team in the same promo. I wonder if there was anyone of note I should have spotted in the Musical Youth vid ? Windy would know I guess ... Onto "TOTP Peel 2" and I watched Barry Manilow in a different light following recent "revelations" and took particular note of The Pinkees as they came from Basildon, very much my neck of the woods (I've already revealed my very loose connection with Depeche Mode!!) Another Facebook friend once posted up a film clip of them performing live in the town centre at a local radio roadshow he was involved in, either around that time or some years later - either way I recall it not being half as glam as the BBC studios !!! Finally speak of the devil... I mentioned Melba Moore in my last contribution and here she was with her Kashif-created soul hit, a sound that may not have been to everybody's taste maybe, but certainly part of the soundtrack to my life as a 20 year-old flush with cash after starting work, still living at home with the folks and having discovered discotheques and girls !!!
