Quite a few surprises so far, with Carry On Behind being a very popular choice. Have to admit it wasn't in my chosen three, largely due to a lack of Sid James, but I don't mind it.

Yes, Gene, despite the fact he is not in it, it is still very funny. On the subject of Sid James, next month is the 40th anniversary of his death

Odd that the notoriously tightfisted Carry On producers chose to employ Sommer & before her Phil Silvers, apparently Sommer was paid £30,000 ( 6 times more than the biggest regulars got ). The Carry On's success was due to the involvement of the regular team, having Sommer in it ( hardly a big name then or ever ) doesn't make much sense. I can imagine Williams being annoyed at her fee though there's no other mention of her in his diaries.
Carry On Loving is another I like. I prefer the ones set in the present day to the historical ones.

I too am surprised at how many votes Carry On Behind has drawn. By the way It was Kenneth William's final Carry on wasn't it ? If I remember correctly Liz Fraser's part in the film was surprisingly small, after being out of them for quite a while. I thought Kenneth Connor played his part very well in the film.
Regarding the amount of money they paid Elke Sommer. If I had been one of the regulars, and had known about it.I think I would given Behind a miss, and told a Peter Rogers where to go.

It should've been his last but there was Emmanuelle after it. His diary entries describe how bad the script is & how he 'has no option' but to turn it down, then he gets a phone call saying the script is more innocent than it sounds & that he'll be paid more than usual. He ends up being offered £6,000 'but if you want a car it will be docked from your salary', so he settles for £5,750. Considering Sommer's fee & the fact that Williams had been with them for years & helped them make a profit, that's pretty disgraceful treatment. He mentions that they were pestering him to do an 'Arabian film' a few months after Emmanuelle, presumably this would've been the next Carry On.

Great insight into the goings on behind the scenes. unfortunately this kind of treatment of people is not a rare story. The music business is full of similar tales.

My favourite Cabby. I liked the early 60s location filming and Mark 1 Cortinas. Also, wasn't Amanda Barrie hot in '63!
