Sorry to correct you DE but it was Gene who correctly identified it as The Galleon, I just subsequently confirmed it having sunk a few pints there years back.

No worries Sam, yes fair play to Gene with the locations he's discovered and the threads he's put together recently.
Anyone who's not seen them have a look they're a brilliant piece of hard work.

Thanks Dirty Epic
I've not hit the post count to access the locations thread so good to know where it is/was
What a flipping shame it was demolished. Really should have been a listed building.

Is Chertsey worth a visit? I've never had the pleasure
Was the cricket club in the episode nearby too?
I can't imagine that little clubhouse still exists
Another reminder of the long hot Summer of 76 with the parched cricket pitch that looked like a discarded ciggie would set the whole pitch ablaze

Chertsey?
Like many small towns it is looking run-down and struggling to draw the footfall through that many town centres used to enjoy. Last time I was there was almost two years ago and it was the sad mix of pound shops, charity shops and sandwich bars. There is a Sainsbury's there around the back of the high street that seems to get all the business but that seems about it.
There are a couple of old buildings that are worthy of note such as the old town hall but sadly the town is a shadow of its former, bustling self that I visited from time to time when I lived in Thorpe as a nipper.
The location of what was The Galleon (now called The Bridge) is out of town and the old building that was also next to The Galleon was also pulled down. This was one that had a magnificent cast iron fretwork balcony across the front, a real building of character now replaced with a small multi-storey car park for The Bridge.
I'm sure there may be some minor attractions associated with the Thames there but they would be dotted between Chertsey Bridge and Laleham rather than at Chertsey itself.
On the plus side? It is only a few miles away from the Brooklands Museum.
Sam.

Thanks Sam
You didn't really sell it to me
The Brooklands Museum, on the other hand, sounds worth a visit
Surrey is one of those counties I've only ever passed through - aside from Richmond and Kingston, which I think are both in Surrey

That's a stunning analysis Arthur.
Thanks.
I agree with everything you say too - all thoughts I'd had but you've articulated them, and some others, far more eloquently and insightfully than I could hope to do
Uncle washing Pinder's feet also hints at some kind of foot fetish - whilst both enjoy an intelligent and highbrow conversation that like of which is rarely heard in an episode of the Sweeney.
Despite the episode's overall incoherence there is still plenty to enjoy.
By the by, what's the big old Victorian boozer which features a couple of times?
Lord E, though I'm sure it's not true. It's odd though that until now I hadn't made the connection between Cook's time in Ireland & his mental health. No doubt others have but it only occurred to me as I was thinking about the episode again, seems obvious now.

As Sam mentions in his post it is a bit run down. On the other hand, it's worth a visit if you're a fan of Public Eye. Several locations to look at as part of the final series was set and filmed there. Vi

Clarence, Brooklands is definitely worth a visit. I have Brooklands Trust membership and go a number of times per year. Your best bet is to see if you can get along there for their New Year's Day classic car show as it is always well attended with hundreds of cars on display of varying vintage. Of course there are always the aircraft displays still open to view as well as the bus museum if buses are your thing. Hmmm, I've just realised... Sam.

That's a great analysis Arthur on this episode, some points I'd never thought of before! Yes we don't find out how Pinhead just suddenly got ill, and earlier in the episode it seems pretty quickly once he's out, he's landed a job as a mechanic tuning Aston Martins!! Perhaps that was what he may have been trained in before he went inside.
I agree that Cookie (great though the character is to watch) seems to go more over the top in this than Taste Of Fear. Another thing I thought was once he's sprung out, shortly after he seems to walk in a pretty relaxed manner to Uncle's sisters house in full view showing his face, when surely there would have been some publicity on TV and Newspapers fairly quickly (even in those days of no social media) to look out for a dangerous escaped convict. How far did he travel from the prison to where Pinhead is and where did he get money for public transport fares?
