Yes, another wonderful trip to Newcastle and the surrounding area. This time with a slightly different theme. We all love The Likely Lads and we all love Get Carter and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. I'm sure that like me, you have watched them all many many times and always wanted to visit the locations used. Indeed, we have visited a vast number of them over the years. However, some of the locations have changed so much that there is almost nothing left of recognition. Not only buildings gone, but also roads. This has never deterred me from still wanting to find exactly where these scenes were filmed. Not only find them, but visit them and stand right where they once were. Even better for me is the opportunity to take some of you around to stand there yourselves.
For instance. Have you ever wanted to stand exactly where Jack visited his late brother, Frank? Know exactly where the funeral cars (above) left Franks house in that very steep back street? I know I do! In fact, how would you feel about standing there knowing that you are the first location spotter to have ever stood in the CORRECT spot? I say this because in the lead up to my making this announcement, I have been digging away to pin these long gone locations on a permanent map for future reference. In doing so, I have discovered that in the almost exactly 53 years that have passed since filming, people have been documenting the wrong spot for these scenes. Fan sites and many other sources have this down incorrectly as Inchberry Close, Benwell. It isn't. In fact it is around 0.2 miles away. So, as I say, you will be the first to stand EXACTLY where Franks house stood.
There will be other locations like this too, but also some more recogniseable locations along the way.
I will be putting together the full itinerary in the coming weeks and will post it in due course.
As before, I'm giving you all plenty of notice so that you can make all necessary arrangements. For now though, what you need to know is the following.
- Everyone is responsible for getting themselves to Newcastle
- Some of us will be travelling up on Saturday and spending both Saturday & Sunday night in Newcastle.
- You are responsible for making your own hotel reservation.
I will be staying in The Premier Inn, Quayside on both Saturday & Sunday evening, returning home on Monday. This remains quite reasonably priced and is ideally situated right on the Tyne.
I would advise booking as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. You are also free to source your own hotel but keep in mind that the Meet will probably commence in front of The Premier Inn Quayside on the Sunday morning.
Their full address for anyone wishing to book is:
Premier Inn Newcastle Quayside.
The Quayside
Newcastle Upon Tyne

If you are staying there and are driving, there is a secure underground car park which you can not book in advance. It is a first come first served basis so it may be an idea to source a backup car park. There are plenty nearby.
Obviously, we will require vehicles to get around the locations on the day so we will be heavily reliant on members who do drive up to Newcastle using their cars to get themselves and others from location to location. It is worth bearing in mind that it is far easier to get around than it is in London. I've covered these locations dozens of times in the past and never had a problem getting around compared to London based events.
Anyone who wants to attend, please register your name below. PLEASE, clearly state the following.
- Are you staying Saturday and Sunday night?
- Are you driving on the Meet itself?
- Have you Booked the hotel and if so, which one (hopefully as before we will all be in the Premier Inn)
Please let me know the above when registering.
ATTENTION ANYONE WHO HAS NEVER ATTENDED A MEET.
What are you waiting for? Have a look back through the previous Meet Report threads and see what you've been missing! They really are superb events so take that first step - we all had to do the same once upon a time. You won't regret it.
I will keep tabs on who's in below.
