Evening all. For those of you travelling to from the Toon by train, the LNER website already has trains to book, including the cheaper advance tickets, although the prices are unusually steep. E.g, if coming from King’s Cross (KGX) to Newcastle (NCL) on the superstitiously alarming Friday 13th October, the cheapest fare is £56.70 on the 13:30 or £60.00 on the midday departure or £66.20 on most of the other morning departures. This seems all a bit excessive so I did a few part fare options and the total soon came tumbling to something more expected and agreeable. Breaking the journey at York (YRK) is a good call as you can get the 11:06 from KGX, arriving 13:30 for £29.80, decant yourself into the superb York Tap on the main southbound platform 3 yorktap.com and then await whatever northbound LNER train you’ve booked yourself on for between £9.10, £10.20 or £13.80. You could therefore go KGX - NCL by LNER for £38.90 and save yourself a minimum of eighteen quid. Doncaster (DON) has even more happy hunting ground from KGX as there are numerous trains that get you there from as cheap as £20.50 and there’s plenty onto NCL from £15.90! (15:11d) plus loads of others between £19.20 (16:10d), £20.80 (13:11d) and so on. You can therefore get to NCL from KGX for a shade over £36.00, rather than £56.70+. I’ve not even looked at price options for splitting your tickets on the same train but you get the drift. It’s all very tedious and shouldn’t be necessary but here we are. Same again on your return. If leaving NCL on the afternoon on Monday 16/10, it’s pretty much a blanket £52.90 or £56.70 to KGX. However, by splitting at Donny again, the total comes right down. You can get to Donny from NCL for as cheap as £11:80 (14:26d, 16:26d, 17:27d) and then travel onto KGX from Donny for between £17.30, £22.10 and £28.90. By splitting the journey at Donny, you can go NCL - KGX for as little as £29.10, compared with £52.90+. The same savings apply for first class if you want to go full Jack although there’s also the Seatfrog app for that which is also good. Thank me later for your fiscal savings and class the coin banked as beer money. In a thin glass…

A few months ago I put my name down to be a driver at our upcoming meet in Newcastle. I've since found out however that owing to the fact that the car I was going to bring up and which is in my wifes name is a motability car, and its use is restricted for her concerns alone, so I sincerely regret to say that I wont now be able to bring it after all and will have to take my name of the designated drivers list.
Charles.

'No Sleep 'Til Tyneside' The next 6 weeks will soon fly by, bring it on! These meet weekly countdowns always have a reliable habit of elapsing twice as fast as you’d otherwise expect. Let’s hope the candle burns slowly on the meet itself so we can take it all in.
