21 Jan 1979 I've just noticed Sweeney faces Anthony Heaton (Billy Medhurst) and James Cosmo (Davy Freeth) in that top photo Gene.

Freddie Starr - he turned into a bit a of tragic figure getting caught up in all furore with Operation Yewtree without ever having being charged and losing a court case over a claim about appearing on Clunk Click with the obnoxious individual Jimmy Saville, so makes you think the claims made were true.

22 Jan 1972 50 years ago today Interesting to see the variety show in the evening with Larry Grayson (just becoming a big star that year) and John Bluthal and Joe Lynch, presumably in character from their Never Mind The Quality Feel The Width sitcom. I vaguely remember the series about a couple of tailors and there was a spin off feature film too.

Cheers Arthur. I note the Programme at 2:25 PM - Boney - Although I've never seen any episodes, I've read about it, and it was an Australian Police Detective series starring James Laurenson as D.I Napolean Bonaparte, who was based on the book character "Bony" - a half aboriginal Police Detective who used his Outback knowledge to crack crimes including murder.
26 episodes were produced during 1971-72 and 2 series. Professionals fans may know the actor as he played Meredith in "Stopover". He also had parts in many other TV series (including well known ones) and last acted on film in 2018 according to the IMDB.
I did see an episode of 'Boney' on yt a few years ago, I can't see it now so it's probably gone, it was very poor picture quality in any case. Standard detective show with Boney being subject to some bigotry along the way due to his part Aboriginal ancestry. The music by Sven Libaek is very good.

Just spotted Eric Paice credited as story editor, an English writer who contributed to everything from Dixon of Dock Green to The Avengers. He also created the long forgotten Star Maidens in 1976, which was a futuristic series about a planet ruled by women (episodes of which are on YT but haven't got round to watching again yet).

They like that, the ladies, don't they Sir ?Looks like Never Mind the Quality... ran between 67 and 71. A Vince Powell/Harry Driver sitcom about a Jewish guy and his Catholic business partner. I'm sure Vince and Harry stayed away from getting laughs from stereotypes. May have to seek out some old episodes. I don't think it inspired The Fast Show characters though.

There was a Two Ronnies long running sketch about that premise with Diana Dors, they used to have story running all through each series.

Get This with Harry Fowler at 4.20 - I don't remember anything about it, but it looks like Southern's version of a kid's magazine show with a strange format (featuring music from John Hawkins and the Oompah Band!). I vaguely recall Harry Fowler's follow up series Going A Bundle which followed collectors and the theme tune which Harry sang to the music of John Hawkins...without the Oompah Band. Co-presented by Ann Aston, famous for being the scorer on The Golden Shot who could never add up. Sing Out with The Settlers in the afternoon, no doubt fresh from their recording of the Follyfoot theme Lightning Tree.
