Starting with the listings for Sunday January 2 1972, 50 years ago today. 'On The Buses' followed by what would've presumably been an English dubbed version of 'Les Diaboliques', surprising to see this influential French horror thriller in a pre watershed slot.

Starting with the listings for Sunday January 2 1972, 50 years ago today. Haven't heard of The Intruder before, though it sounds like one of those interesting straight forward children's adventure series that were so much a part of the 70s. Do they even make drama for children these days ? Like the Holidays Abroad listing. I suppose it was an early attempt at the Holiday and Wish You Were Here shows that would appear within a year or so. Mike Smith's dubious DIY skills on show still going strong at lunchtime. One of the FB groups frequented occasionally by old Yorkshire TV staff told a couple of behind the scenes tales, one of which was of Mike building a wooden fire surround which collapsed the moment the end caption was faded up.

Do they even make drama for children these days ? They do, but it's a rarity - and they don't seem to have to same feel as those from years gone by. CBBC sometimes have something - though they tend to be cheap & cheerful. The closest I have seen are the adaptations of David Walliams books - though they tend to be aired during the early evening, and over christmas - aimed at the "Family".
It's a shame they don't make them - though viewing attitudes have changed, especially for children.
IN 2019 and 2020, the BBC put out a call to writers for ideas for possible Childrens dramas and short stories. They were looking for formats, treatments and rough outlines to consider. I think they were going to make them as short story/films.

Candid Camera was always a good watch back then. The 60s original featured Jonathan Routh, but returned in the 70s with producer Peter Dulay as chief prankster. Jonathan returned a few years later but a few victims recognised him and some of the stunts failed. I recall him trying to revive the one from the 60s where he pushed a broken down car into a garage and the engine was missing. The intended victim sussed immediately and laughed, no chance, mate. Your face is too familiar. Funny how the memory plays tricks. I always thought Man About The House started in 1975, but looks like they were already on series 2 at the start of 74.

Good stuff Art Sale Of The Century - 6.30 on a Saturday evening is a strange slot for a game show ? I only remember this from the 80s and think it was moved to a Sunday evening by then . PS I'll have a 14 day Majorca holiday for £44 That works out at £377.46 at 2020 prices. Still cheap If you ask me.

Talking about Sale of the Century, one of the girls on it who used to display the prizes, Linda Hooks, had a small part in Jack or Knave, Sweeney series 4.
I remember her being quite popular amongst us lads at school in the late 70s!😀

They kept swapping the slot of Sale of the Century about - it was on a Friday evening, just after the local news at something like 7pm - in the ATV area at least. It did move to a Sunday, I seem to remember - and then Family Fortunes was stuck in that slot during the early evening - which started in 1980.
Though, I am unsure if it was shown at the same time across the entire network - it was in the late 70s; then some of the smaller regions used to stick it on later, or on a different day.
