I think if I had my time again I like to be a character actor on TV, not a big film star, just someone who gets to be a range of great TV shows. Oh well. Probably end up as a quantity surveyor. Probably more money in being a QS, but far less job satisfaction. Gene.

Mind you I'd sooner be a villain like Frank than the 'jobsworth' ticket collector he encounters on the approach to Kings Cross.

Frank Ross:
'What do expect me to do? Get a job 9 to 5 - stick a tenner a week in the Post Office'
Classic line.
And there are plenty....

Just finished watching this, I did see it on original release back in '78 although couldn't remember much of the plot.
Thought it was excellent, showed good and bad sides to police and the blaggers.
They left it open at the end so must have expected a sequel but Bell wasn't interested I believe, which was a pity.

Out is Trevor Preston on great form. I enjoyed this series and it's such a shame it didn't continue. It may of worked if they changed the lead to follow another lag ?

It is indeed and its a great look at late 70s South London I’ve just re-read my original post on this thread from back in 2016 and saw the series again recently and it’s lost none of its appeal. I remember that London so well in all its gritty and grotty wonder. I’ve visited a few east London places in the last few months that I remember well as a kid and apart from some new builds on what previously was wasteland and cosmetic changes (particularly with road and pavement alterations), not a great deal has changed so it’s easy to transport myself back in time and reimagine it as it was.

Nice one Mick. Did you get any snaps on your reccy ? A few in the Leytonstone area, including of a couple of new beer places in the arches either side of Leytonstone High Road station which was both strange and comforting, considering my earliest memories of this location are at least half a century ago (the locations that is, rather than imbibing some craft suds…). Leytonstone High Road (the Road itself, not the station), was so busy in the 1970s and 1980s with loads of HGVs but when the A12 link road was built about thirty years ago that all changed and it’s now narrowed and much more peaceful with just cars and a few bus routes although, as said, many of the buildings haven’t changed.
