Xanadu. The film is absolutely kack, but some of the music in it was good, by ELO and Olivia Newton John. The title track, and Magic, by Olivia, and I'm Alive, All over the World by ELO. I haven't seen the film, but your description seems to confirm what many others have said. There seemed to be a craze around the late 70s/early 80s of getting a big name in the pop world and basing a film around them. It seemed like it was a case of "We've got...signed up, let's worry about the script/storyline later". In the same year, there was a film called Can't Stop The Music. I haven't seen this either, but apparently it was basically a weak story made to showcase/cash in on the popularity of The Village People. It won various "Worst Film" awards.

Human Traffic for me. You'll probably disagree but for me it's got the stuff I like but not really all that as a film and it's depiction of late '90's clubheads was about as realistic as a CGI superhero movie. It's dated a bit too (nearly 25 years and all that. ) and the BBC's Tinsel Town from around that period was a lot more realistic and grittier than this too. Never knew Sam Tyler was a raver in 1999!
