Quite a partizan crowd at the Dutch GP.... That's handy as it makes a good covering for fruit cake. I'd read elsewhere that they get enthusiastic, can't bother the drivers too much though during the race you would have thought, given the noise and concentration required.

It's not during the race that it's a problem. Hamilton broke down on track on Friday and was booed when he got out of the car. When he's seen in the pit lane there, he's booed and if he makes the podium tomorrow he will be booed. Heaven help him if he beats Verstappen in his home race tomorrow. No matter how strong minded a driver is, and Hamilton's claims of taking the booing and turning it into a positive, it is bound to have an effect if it happens race after race as it has done since Silverstone. These fans forget how many other drivers Verstappen has punted off the track since he got into F1.

I think it's envitable after so long at the top, you get people who don't like you for many reasons. Not pleasant I agree but I can't imagine he lets it bother him too much. I don't like people who idolise others when they are far from perfect, in respect of Versatppen.

Agreed. I'm sure the millions in the bank ease his discomfort more than we can imagine! I think Hamiltons aim to surpass Michael Schumaches tally of titles is all that keeps him in the sport now. I don't think next year will be any easier for him either, if George Russell gets the other Mercedes seat. That's not to say that Merc have a winning car next year though. For sure, if McLaren get their act together then my money is on Lando Norris who for me is the class of the field at the moment.
Gene.

The press seem to be ramping up the tension they think will exist between the two next year.
Not sure you need that in a rather dangerous sport ......................

The press never let the facts get in the way do they? There is absolutely no guarantee whatsoever that they will be in comparable cars next year for starters. It promises to be a whole new ball game in 2022 which can only be good for the sport.

Next year is a bit of an unknown I just hope it achieves its aims of making the racing closer. This season has been a revelation with Red Bull able to fight Mercedes all the way. So many seasons where all Hamilton had to do was beat his teammate. Not his fault of course but it was a fallow period for all the other teams for the longest time i can remember in 40 years watching this sport. As for booing in the sport I don't think there's any need for it and it can come back to bite your arse if your fav loses . Just support your Driver or team even more instead. Ok so if there was a shady incident in the race a bit of booing might be justified but when Hamilton just stops on track its not really needed.

Not before time. I can well see Bottas slotting in the vacant Alfa seat when George Russell takes his rightful place at Mercedes. Gene. Predictions like that are a piece of p*** when you can time travel Gene Genie.

These fans forget how many other drivers Verstappen has punted off the track since he got into F1. I didn't watch the practice races last week though I saw Quali. and race day. I have noticed lately that Lewis consistently thanks the crowd for being at the track and their support in interviews after qualifying and it has always been when the support has been overwhelmingly for another driver or team. I did think to myself that it is as a good strategy to adopt. You can't win them over. It must be hard when a whole crowd wants you to lose. I know this is a different example, but watching Aussie tennis player Ash Barty play the American player with the whole crowd for Shelby Rogers reminded me of that, though Ash doesn't seem to be disturbed by it. I think it rattles Lewis. The stupid thing is if he had a losing streak people would probably all get behind him again ! Human nature.
