It's that time of year again and the F1 show is back.
As per everything this last year or so it's a little different being in Bahrain instead of the usual Melbourne opener which has been a well received tradition over the years too.
Haven't really followed much of the pre-season testing form but it looks like it may be a closer run thing this year with Red Bull having early form and pace with maybe Mercedes sandbagging maybe not but let's hope there is a decent charge from more than one team this year although the success that Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have achieved these last few years has been more than deserved.
Will McLaren have the advantage in the midfield and maybe win some races with Danny Ricciardo and Lando Norris now giving them a strong driver line up, Can Vettel bounce back from his Ferrari period and being honest some personal screw up's which probably at least cost him one WDC at the prancing horse with Aston Martin. Speaking of which can Ferrari come back into play after a nightmare season or two where they've been outclassed by the likes of Alpha Tauri, Racing Point and Renault let alone the front runners. How about Alonso and Alpine is that going to go well or is it like many another comeback (Schumi) a case of not really. Will Alpha Tauri have another fairly decent season and what about the defacto Ferarri and Mercedes B-Team's Alfa Romeo, Haas and the ailing Williams teams they surely have to raise their games this year, especially with talented drivers like Kimi, George Russell and the possible potential of Mick Schumacher all poised and ready - in the latter two drivers cases for the next step.
At least it looks like we're getting going with a proper season this year, not the fault of anyone last season but the whole year made things like this a bit of a afterthought.
We'll soon be back in the thick of the action with FP1.

I'm looking forward to the season and hope we get good races with mixed winners. Hopefully the top five teams will be closer than seasons past. If we get that I'm happy and F1 needs that in general.

I haven't seen the whole race yet as I had recorded it but I did walk in and see the broadcast for the closing laps. If the rest of the race was as interesting as the closing laps then it looks to have been a great season opener.
Without giving away the result for those that haven't yet seen it, it was disappointing to see the deserved winner end up back in second place.....
Sam.

Not sure what you mean by deserved winner, perhaps you wanted him to win but I don’t think he deserved it, I don’t think he was cheated out of the win but he did gain some experience and I don’t think he’d do the same thing again if he could re-do that lap.

No he certainly wasn't cheated out of the win, he made a mistake while overtaking which cost him the win. But when I joined the viewing late, saw his late charge and the progress he'd made in those closing stages, particularly with how the eventual winner was struggling with his tyres, to me he deserved the win. In my opinion the winner must count himself lucky that the error was made but even so I did note that he was straight on the radio to report the misdemeanor in his desperation to maintain the lead. Sam.

This was an interesting race with lots of good action throughout the field. I thought Alonso did well on his return,Riccardo had a good debut and even the racing up front had a lot going for it... for once. The best drivers on the grid battled it out and even though Max clearly had the quicker package all weekend, the race was up for grabs as the strategies played out. Max should've had Lewis with a couple of laps to spare but a bad couple of laps after the iffy overtake cost him the win. Thought Martin Brundles analysis of the situation was bang on in that Max should of let Lewis have the place back just before a DRS zone. He would have easily got him again if he had. Lewis got away with one yesterday but if the top two teams are this close in performance then Max will see wins come his way in a similar vein.
I don't subscribe to the camp of Hamilton cheated and can see why race control told RedBull to give the spot back. I think though the white line rule should be zero tolerance or let them use the room. That would end the arguments no excuses. Hopefully stewards won't come into play too much this season.
Driver of the day - Max Verstappen Chump - Vettel . Hope Seb can get that Aston going better than yesterday.
