Another thing on 80s shoes...
Anyone remember the phase when the likes of RUN DMC all had Addidas trainers without the laces - as to make them look like they were nicked off the shelf in somewhere like "Olympus Sports".
I knew mates buying them and taking the laces out!!
Then we had Beastie Boys wearing VW badges - so everyone who had a VW had their badge nicked........

I remember the car badges nicking craze too, from 1987 or so, my dad's mate had his BMW's car badge nicked off the bootlid and Mercedes ones used to go missing too. Funny thing was, some people wore the VW badge even though they didn't like the Beastie boys they said!
Mentioned earlier about the hair, yes I remember the puckey smell of hair gel from hairdressers and various lads at school getting shaggy perms done which all looked stupid, a mates older brother had his done too, thankfully didn't last long and it never suited him. Some even let the hair dangle in front of their eyes purposely as they thought it was cool and I remember one teacher telling a kid to "for goodness sake, brush your away from your eyes!!"
Oh yeah and anyone remember people getting "highlights" done on their hair, other lads looked silly with those, I seem to remember shorter styles started to come back again by about 1988/89, coinciding with the end of the decade, like Bros looked like........
I remember them "Stu Stu Stu Studio line" adverts too all the time.............
Other brand names being bandered about were DiaDora, Fila, and Lacoste, and I had trainers from Hi-Tec, Adidas and Converse.

I love 80s advertsing. Some epics, Cinema Advertising is another thread on it's own.

Here's a Hi-Tec advert from the 1980's not quite aiming for the adidas Originals market are they?!

Maybe, but I've had Hi Tec trainers in years gone by and have to say they've outlasted Adidas trainers I've also had.
I've got a pair of Adidas Sambas at the moment and they're not wearing as well as you'd expect either. They are comfy though.
Gene.

I have a few pairs of trainers and these Micropacer are quintessentially 80's. Futuristic looking with an integrated LCD display that measures distance, pace and calorific burn. In the 80's, Adidas were at the forefront of trainer design and innovation. This feature shows the ZX range and details the technical features, such as dual density soles and heel counters for stability. How many of these do you remember? Full disclosure, I love Adidas and have almost 70 pairs and counting, including the Micropacer and many of the ZX range, my favourites being the ZX 8000's (I have 3 pairs of these). All I hope is that when I die, Jamie doesn't sell them for what I told her I paid for them

I've never been a trainers person by any stretch, but I do remember having some gold trainers at primary school which were quite snazzy . I barely remember the 90s, but that is technically my era, I suppose. When I look at photos of my brother and me then, I think the most striking difference is the type of clothes. Whilst my parents didn't have very much and most of what we wore was second-hand (which I like to think means I actually grew up in the 80s ) I don't think we were alone in the fact that kids were just put in clothes which kept them warm/dry and that was that. It's all quite vibrant, practical materials with garish patterns or whatever ... lots of poppers, I seem to recall! But when I see pictures of the kids of people I was at school with, they're dressed like the adults! It's all matching and more to be looked at than covered in mud. I don't know, it just seems like that's quite a notable change. This kind of trendy stuff in the 80s was very expensive. I remember wanting some Adidas trainers really badly and the only way to get them was as a birthday present My parents couldn't afford and refused to buy trainers for £30 ish quid in the early 80s. They were quite expensive then. Another problem was where to get them. There wasn't any chain sports retailers as there is now. We often had to get branded stuff like Adidas from indy sports shops or catalogs. Football kits were really hard to get then too. Maybe, but I've had Hi Tec trainers in years gone by and have to say they've outlasted Adidas trainers I've also had. I've got a pair of Adidas Sambas at the moment and they're not wearing as well as you'd expect either. They are comfy though. Gene. Gene you haven't done bad with them, you've had them since 1991. I had the Red Tecs in the 80s didn't like them much they were uncomfortable. The Nike Dunk Vandal High were great though. I remember them "Stu Stu Stu Studio line" adverts too all the time.............

I don't mind classic Nike's but don't really like the modern stuff.
