I had a job picking litter up at an international cricket match at Old Trafford & was amazed at the amount of rubbish left by the spectators ( you'd think cricket fans might be more civilised ), all the stands were ankle deep in it. I spoke to one of the groundsmen about it & he said that people buy a ticket to enter the place & therefore feel it entitles them to do as they please.
A mates band played at Leeds and Reading Festival 20 odd years ago - I used to 'look after their lights'. After the gig I was shocked at the amount of rubbish left behind; they had these small 4x4 vehicles like bulldozers scraping up all the rubbish into the centre of a field, when the work was completed the pile of rubbish must have been the size of a 2 story house.
Then the rubbish had to be carefully removed - as it contained everything from broken glass, poo, bottles filled with pee to needles and used condoms, and that was alongside the broken deck chairs, umbrellas, underwear and other discarded clothing & tech.

Yuck!

By way of contrast the Japanese pick up their litter and tidy up
I remember after a Japan v Columbia world cup match the Columbians were so amazed that they joined in. Imagine if everyone did that before they left a venue or a place?

Yes & acts of courtesy like taking shoes off before entering a house. It's not something we routinely do in Britain but we should. People in general should take more responsibility for their surroundings. The Japanese are big on shame & honour, we aren't in this country.

Yep, more likely to find some scroat peeing up the wall and chucking a brick through the window over here.

I had a package to send to the US today & as an online seller with a lot of US customers I was concerned that the postage had increased hugely, from £9.81 to £15.18 for a small parcel. Of course the royal mail never tells you about its price increases so I had to look into it & came across this article-
The price increase went into effect today in fact-
"Royal Mail have seen 95% less air passenger flights as a result of Covid-191 and are having to use air freight instead. This is considerably more expensive. It has led to a five-fold increase in conveyance costs to the US following the outbreak of Covid-19. As a business, Royal Mail say that they have absorbed these costs to date. But, from the 1st of July, they are going to recover their best estimate of future conveyance costs in this financial year".
I think the US is the only country to force this price increase as I checked & the cost of sending to other countries is the same. Diabolical liberty by the septics

Thanks for the info Tiger. I sell quite a bit online too and regularly send items to the septics. I wasn't aware of the increase either and having just checked the last parcel that I sent on Monday which cost me £14.56, the same parcel today would be £18.68 and would be £3.50 more expensive than sending to Australia! So now I've got around 280 items on eBay to edit and revisions to my online shop, cosmic! Sam.

Arthur, I noticed Indicator/Powerhouse films were warning of a steep rise in shipping costs from the UK to the US starting 1st July on their website a couple of weeks ago. I don't think I would have really noticed it otherwise, even Royal Mail themselves seemed to have said little about it as you mention.

The Royal Mail ought to have made it clear on their website, had I known I would've bought the postage on 30th June & saved a fiver. Just glad it was only 1 parcel as there are days when I've got several that need sending to the US. I wouldn't have been happy if I'd had half a dozen parcels to send.

Who else is wearing a face covering on Tues, Wed or Thurs because they'll be obligatory on Fri? I wore a dust mask today in the supermarket for the first time because I thought it was absurd to wait till Friday if the advice is it may be better than no covering at all. None of the other shoppers were wearing one & I imagine they were looking at me thinking 'does he think it's Friday?'
