Thanks Charlie. Steve I've been to them where it's in person hands up job. But also been to one where you were invited to tweet a question at the start of the event with some picked at the end. Thanks for the info Del. If anyone feels brave enough to ask on my behalf I'd be grateful. Hope you all have a champion time

Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to attend due to work commitments I would have loved to go. I don't know how these Q & A things work but if the opportunity presents itself, I would be very grateful if any of the members attending could ask/find out the following: 1: What the connection Clement/La Frenais have with Berwick Upon Tweed. It's mentioned a few times in Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads (one episode even has some scenes filmed there) and in Auf Wiedersehen Pet which they also wrote. I am interested to know as this is my home town. 2: Where oh where can I get the soundtrack to the Likely Lads film? Ian La Frenais wrote the theme song so maybe he can tell? I don't think it is available or ever was, and the Guv very kindly made me a CD with the music from the film (still on heavy rotation Gene ) but I would like a definitive answer if possible. Finally, if someone could pick up a signed programme or whatever that would be great. Of course I will reimburse any expenses and an appreciative drink will be yours at the upcoming 4:3 meet. Hope this request is OK with admin and thanks in advance Hope the forum members attending tonight have a champion time, can't wait to get my hands on the blu ray next week. You will be able to pick up a copy at the event tonight you lucky lot!!

Well what a great evening! It all started off at 1645 hrs when Saint kindly invited Dirty Epic and myself to meet him at a little club he knew. I nearly missed him because I didn't recognise him in a long mac. The beer was ok but I was startled when we were presented with a bill for 72.50 for three pints and a pack of Nik Naks each. I said oi Saint, what did you bring us in ere for? He confessed he'd only read about it in a magazine and that it said it was inclusive for new comer's Dirty Epic suggested that we scarper out the bog window so we ordered another drink to avoid suspicion and promptly had it away on our toes. Fortunately the venue was only two streets away and we dived in there quickly. Another squad member was there Gerry Burtonshaw and we had a quick chat before going to our seats. On to the show the first thing on offer was two recently missing believed wiped episodes of The Likely Lads. These haven't been seen since the mid 60s and they're both a cracking pair of episodes. They're in B/W but have been restored to a good standard and were very enjoyable. I won't give anything away here as you will want to see them on the DVD if you're getting it. These episodes are included as extras so it's well worth getting. Following these was the Q&A with Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. It focused mainly on the Likely Lads tv series and film but was interesting that it covered the early part of their career in detail. The start of their career had a fortunate break in that Dick Clement had submitted a piece that would go on to be developed into the Likely Lads. They both had written it and Dick directed it. This was for his exam as a director. A few months later someone saw it and asked Dick if he thought of it as a series he said yes even though they hadn't written any more. The BBC were keen as it coincided with the start of BBC2 and so it was commissioned. Clement and La frenais's career was off to a flying start. After the interval the film was shown and again it's been cleaned up to a high standard and looks great. Best bit of all was seeing this on the big screen and laughing at the comedy with a crowd. The added atmosphere was great, it certainly made a difference. I imagine it was like viewing it in 1976. Brilliant. Would love to see more old movies like this. That cinema is showing Blade Runner soon.

Spot on Del and forgot to mention that in my previous post. Interesting they mentioned the genesis of the Likely Lads was a exam piece they made when their film/TV career began. Just shows things could get off the ground and be made into good workable ideas much quicker than nowadays, well case in point was the fair few aborted projects they had up their sleeve from the 90's onwards which never really got made.
Still one thing I did agree with Dick Clement on which he said between the lines was there's still good things out there and being made now. I feel it's more a case of investigating these and with today's multimedia world it's harder for a single thing to gather momentum like Likely Lads, Porridge, Auf Pet etc. can/did but they're out there. Also with so much choice one man's meat is another's poison too. I sort of get that I appreciate the past but like to search out the new or unusual too.
Bloody great event glad I attended it and great seeing the film with mates and a audience setting too.
Will have to see if Full Stretch is on Youtube too.

I agree with that point regarding modern television. There is some good stuff but i think it gets hidden in the plethora of crap channels. Things are simply too spread out these days including advertising budgets to push the stuff. A lot of it goes under the radar.
